  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Habbakuk is celebrated today. Just thought I would share this new icon of him in our dome...

Very nice painting. I like several things about it. It is freer and more contemporary in style, while being realistic. I love the English text he holds on the scroll. I also like the fact that he is depicted as a fellow that we all can relate to, not some ethereal, ancient saint.

By the way, I also love the book of Habakkuk.

I am just not quite sure how this icon even begins to convey the message delivered through Habakkuk?

Am i missing something?

It seems fairly clear to me. The scroll is an excerpt from his prophesy, which should call to mind his entire prophesy - just as Paul quote short passages from the OT, and assumes the hearer knows the whole thing! He is point to his ear in a physical gesture relating the words of his scroll - that he heard the Lord, and we too must hear his word which is fulfilled in gospel word, the teaching of Jesus Christ.
