We were in a LDR (167 miles seperated us)
So she came to my place and I took her out for a nice dinner at one of our favorite places down on the river where they have built it up real nice. My plan was that after dinner, we would stoll along the river walk, and find a bench, and then I would purpose there. Before leaving the resaurant, I put the ring in my shirt breast pocket for easy access. Well wouldn't you know it, while we were dining, the wind kicked up, and a cold front rolled through like a frieght train. Her skirt was getting blown up, and we were shivering as we strolled to the benchs. She said, let's get out of here. I said, well lets sit for a moment. But that didn't last long. She said, "it's so nice here, looking at the lighted up water fountain and things. Let's go home and get warmer clothes, and come back. So I said OK.
But by the time we got home, it was 11:30PM. So we decided to sit on the couch and snuggle. We were talking, and
she asked, "what do you really want".
"I want you to be my wife", I replied.
She then said," Are you asking me?"
I said, "No. If I was asking, I would do this." Then I got off the couch, and kneeled, and started reciting my rehearsted statement of love and devotion to her, at the same time I reached into my pocket and held out the ring and asked, "will you marry me?"
She went into shock. She literally was speechless (first and last time). Finally she said, "You're not playing are you?"...."yes, I'll marry you"
We were married 3 months later.
the most important thing to remember when proposing, is it most likely will NOT go as you planned, so be flexable.
