Ok my friends think my mechanic fancies because twice now he hasnt charged me

My heater waa over heating and they spent all day on it and then found the problem he said to me too leave it sort it later.. even though he had none of my details.

I went in on Friday because my tyre was flat, he had put a new one on two weeks before. It was the wheel that waa rhe problem and he fixed him took him 30 mins and whem o asked himhow much he said nothing


Is he being just nice ?
Which I think anyway.... just seeing if I can still read it right

So what do you think

Hard to say... have you tried flirting to see if you get a response?

You could open up the door for him to ask you out and see how he responds, for instance: 'have you tried that new restaurant in town?! I've heard its really good....'

the tire thing sounds like something any mechanic would do for a customer
I have had the local guys plug a hole in a tire and when I asked how much they just said not to worry about it, and since I go there for tires whenever I need new tires, they have offered to fix little things for free

but the first thing, like they worked on it for a while and he still let it slide?
maybe he was flirting
maybe his shop is not doing well and he really needs to build up customer loyalty

lol this is why I never flirt with waitresses, too hard to tell if they like you or if they are just being nice because they are in the customer service business

I don't know... It's most unusual for a mechanic to NOT overcharge a woman. A generalisation maybe, but I've know of it to happen in various garages. I was a trainee mechanic when I was a teenager, and the men spun the young women all sorts of yarns.

They're trying to run a business after all. So it's possible that this guy is in to her. Dishing out freebies doesn't happen everyday.

Erm is wasn't the tyre it was the wheel.

The first job was the my car was over heating. They fitted a new thermostat but it was still over heating

Took them all day to firgure out what was wrong... and he didnt charge me



Sigh maybe am looking to into it... ha ha ha

Unless he knows that you have some sob story, I'd guess this man likes you. Most mechanics don't work for free. This is his livelyhood and he won't get far if he gives away his services/skills. It might be different if this was something he was doing on his own time in your driveway. Then he could just be being kind.

I have know several mechanics that were great with cars but shy as get out around girls. Take him a treat of some sort when you go pick up your car. The more personal the better (homemade brownies or something) and smile and make eye contact with him. If you are interested, say something like "thanks so much and remember you do have my phone number" (i assume he does if you left your car).

A big question here is are these the only work you have had done?

If so it is a bit unusual. Especially the heater part.

If you have had work done before then not so much, though I'd like to know details of the heater part. Often with 'mystery' problems once found it seems easy in hindsight and a GOOD craftsman feels a bit embarrassed they did not figure it out sooner.

Be nice. You either have a good mechanic or a potential boyfriend or both.

Want to see if he likes you? Bring him a car that his shop has never worked on with a cracked radiator and a bad automatic transmission. If he does that for free, then it's pretty obvious that he likes you.

And yeah I mean over here a whole day of labour is like.. $640 dollars (8 hours at $80 per hour). The tire thing, yeah he could have been being nice.. but $640??

Does he own the shop too?

Keith- well they changed the tempstat as it was broke but car was still over heating they ended up taking out the water pipes etc but they were all fine. .they finally n
Firgured it out something about a pin and cap the pin going through the cap he said he's never seen anything like it and my car thw only car that has this set up doe thermal stat... took them all day.
They took the pin and cap out my car now runs on cold and gave me rhe car back. Thats what its going in on tuesdat for to get that part fitted.

No sob story.....


Yes he owns it....

I mean, even if you do not wanna date him, he did work on your car for free
my dad always brings a bag doughnuts for the guys when he has to bring his car in
just as a sign of appreciation
being friendly and knowing about cars keeps him from getting taken advantage of my crooked mechanics, there are a lot of bad ones out there who will just try to hike up the prices and find things that do not need fixing
some yummy baked goods really helps to prevent this
