  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

There are loads of worship songs out there and they are all pretty easy to play. the best thing for you to do is let us know how long you have been playing and how open you are to new chords and what chords you already know. That was we can give you some more songs that maybe will help you stretch your playing and help you learn.

If you want to PM me then go ahead and i will try and get some good songs scanned in and sent to you,

Stu

Check out www.pwarchives.com, (chords and songs displayed) and www.christianmusic.com (join the Equipt Forum for free) there should be some chords displayed-easy chords D,C,G,A,E,Em,Am, and you can play the single notes as well.

I checked both of those sites; and didnt see much in them... just a few outside links. I could consult google for that... I was just curious if there were one or two you'd suggest...

Hey I appreciate your input, honestly I'm sucha n00b at the guitar... I don't even think mines tuned properly. I don't even have a pick. I've only picked it up 2 or 3 times (playing makes my fingers hurt so I cant do it daily) so.., I figured out how to read that box diag to play the chords... but thats about it. So far I can bust out the beginning of "Deliver Me" by David Crowder... and a n00b version of Amazing Grace

Where did you start out?

i started out just playing my mates, and my mate showed me the basic chords and i have developed my skills from there. i wouldnt say im a pro, but i do sometimes play at church in the worship team, so i must be ok. :p

There are alot of christian music websites, if you goto google and search for christian tablature then you should get alot of websites.

My fingers still hurt now when i play a mamoth sesh, but the best thing to do is just to stick with it and go through the pain, that way your fingers will get stronger and the skin on the ends of ure fingers will get tougher.

Well if you are serious about learnign the guitar, i would try and pick it up at least once a day, even if you are transitioning between chords, buy a tuner, they arent expensive, you dont need a flashy one, just a normal guitar tuner will be good. Invest in some picks, get some of all thickness and then you get to know the thickness that you prefer. I play usually with a medium pick, but some people prefer to play with a thick one.

Buy some new strings as there is nothing like practicing the guitar and then breaking a string when you pretend to be carlos santana and over bend that top e string. lol :p
Find a book which shows you the basic chord structures or even search online for chord databases. I found one recently that listed all the chords that you could make, now you might not want one like this, you might just want all the major and minor chords to start with.

The best thing i can say to you is practice.

Good luck and God Bless.

If you want any further help just PM me.

Many worship songs, even the really good ones from like Paul Baloche (who uses open chords and quite a few 7ths and such) can be played to the basic chords of A, Am, C, D, E, Em, and G. Here's a good site to get you started on searching for a song you know, and can now play.

http://www.praisetown.com/songs.html

http://www.pwarchive.com/ - Click the letters on the left side

http://www.worshiparchive.com/worship_chord_sheet.asp

There are other sites that your church may use. We use http://ccli.com/

Also, a WONDERFUL resource (and one I used / use for helping lead worship) is Paul Baloche's. He's an excellent teacher and can make the hard stuff so easy, literally.

http://www.leadworship.com/ - Main Site
http://www.leadworship.com/resources/songbook.html - Song Resource with lyrics, chords, and even Paul's team doing them
http://shop.gospelcom.net/epages/baloche.storefront/4629517b0a677a3f271dccfd841706c0/Catalog/1006 - Instructional DVDs for cheap. I've used them and they are wonderful for only $30 each. Note: you can download the instructions (.pdf) for each dvd to see if its material you want, just click on the morelink under the dvd you are interested in. Please note that though the material may look intimidating, Paul goes over it slowely and thoroughly so you get it.

Please note, there is no relation to my username and the site listed. It is not my site. My username is such because that's what I'm called to do: Lead Worship.

avoid Integrity Hosanna if you're a beginner guitarist. Vineyard songs are much simpler for you. ALso, a lot of the slower Hillsongs songs are very simple too.

Individual songwriters: David Ruis, Martin Smith, Matt Redman... all these are usually four chord wonders.

Keep working at it. It's important to develop the ability to play by ear on guitar, especially if you aim tolead worship. To help that, put on a CD of worship stuff and (making sure your guitar is tuned right) try to play along with no written music/tabs/chords. Try finding the chords on the 1st E string at first and just changing when they change. Then figure out the basic chords and play along. Watch out if you find yourself becoming too reliant on having the music around you as you learn to play better.
