• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey again yall,

So I have been having a few new obsessions that I want to get out in the open.

I sometimes fear that if I don't feel enough guilt for my actions, I am not really saved. When I was saved, I didn't really feel guilt. I knew that I had done wrong, but I didn't really feel guilty. I am just so scared that I did something to screw up my salvation.

Also, how does God feel about the commitment that we give to him? Does that affect our salvation? I once remember that I took tae-kwon-doe classes as a kid. I learned the different ways or whatever, but I lost interest and stopped going. If we lose interest and commitment in God, does he take away our salvation?

Thanks yall.

Hi.. I am no OCD ( I think..) but I have to give my oppinion if you dont mind..ok? You cannot screw up you salvation so easy like you think..and less impossible yet having your particular mental illness (that plays and keep repeating in your mind, you can...I think it does that inside your mind If I understood correctly..)

The Lord is very compassionate, proved He is Love as He gave His life to save us from hell destination...we are not going there, we do not belong there anymore. We do have full assurance of it, He does not lie, He is not a man ...now...the little I do know about OCD is very very little indeed...this illness twist in the minds by playing their sufferes religious fears, as people always falling from grace, that is a big lie. The Lord do not keep accepting and throwing away His children... as much we misbehave for real...as a Perfect Dad He will rebuke us for our own good because He loves us..but not cease to be Our Father, or Lord Jesus our brother or Holy Spirit our seal. He is a Just God.

He does know we are sick and our minds are not to be trusted anyways...God has a plan already and nothing or no one will mess up with it, not even OCD illnes inside.

I am just so scared that I did something to screw up my salvation.

Let me ask you something, how can you mess up something which Christ perfected 2000yrs ago? Think about that for a minute. Your looking at yourself far to much when you should be looking to Jesus.

If your salvation was based upon your own sincerity etc then Christ died in vain.

Huh, this isn't like karate class or boy scouts or something you can opt out of huh? NOT THAT I WANT TO OPT OUT THOUGH!!!!!!

When your in Christ, your in it to win it. Aren't you?

That's a good thought to think about.

When you are in Christ you cant help but to win because its he that works through you! not the other way around brother.

Anything you think you can do rather it be works or anything else has absolutely nothing at all to do with your salvation. I will say it again, your looking at yourself too much here, its all about Jesus and what he did for you at the cross for you. All you can do is humble yourself and thank God for his son fullfilling what you could never fullfill on your own.

The hardest thing for us as humans to understand is that we have nothing at all to offer God, Nothing.

Hi Startrek,
OCD tries to get us to measure our feelings to check and see if they validate our faith. But the moment we start to check our feelings we instantly find it impossible to feel the very feelings that we are checking.
It's like when I got a new grandson a few years back when my OCD was bad. I started worrying that I might not love him like I should. This really made me feel heartsick which should have proved to me that I really did love him. Instead I was always trying to get a handle on whether I was really and truly feeling love toward him. I was "checking". Of course the more instensely I checked the worse I felt about the whole matter and that emotional reaction made me even more concerned that I might not love him. So round and round I went in my head until I just let go of it and stopped trying to sort the whole thing out. It was then that I could allow my feelings of love to flow out to him naturally instead of working so hard to muster up those feelings.
I agree with Robert Z. that our salvation is God's work and that we can't add or take away from that work on our behalf - it's all about His grace. I've come to realize that my faith is not based in myself but in all that God is to me, for me, in me and through me. "Amazing Love- how can it be that thou my God would'st die for me!" "Here in is love - not that WE loved God but the HE loved us and sent His Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins."
Praying for you,
Mitzi

Even though I was bought with Christ's blood and are forgiven, I still feel bad about the things I have done. Maybe that is a good thing...

Also, what constitutes a lie? I know that sometimes we are mistaken or fudge by rounding. But what constitutes a true sinful lie? One of my obsessions at the moment.

Guilt shows that you recognize something as wrong and feels bad about it. I had responded to your post a while ago and I'm surprised that it didn't go through. But there will be guilt when it comes to the sins we've committed or these negative thoughts we have against God but you can't let those feelings consume you. Be grateful that we have an obedient Savior who died for our sins, loving, and gracious. Sometimes the devil wants us to be consumed by guilt and make us feel down on ourselves, but Christ died for us and no matter how we feel He still sits on the throne. =] Through days of trials and day of joy, He is still right there with us.

And as for a lie, I always thought it was the twisting of the truth, or a false answer. . .Never thought that deep into it though.

John 16: 27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
