  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There are several Slash Pine trees in my neighborhood, though none in my yard. Recently my daughter collected open and unopened pine cones to decorate for Christmas, and over night one of the cones opened a bit and let out several seeds. Now she wants to plant the seeds to grow her own pine.

I have no idea how to grow a pine tree from a seed. Anyone have any tips? What sort of soil should I use, what sort of sun do they like, how much water ect…

Pines like a high acid soil. dipp the seed in some root strarter and place it in a small paper cup. keep it damp, but not dreched. See what sprouts
Another method is to place two paper towels on a plate fold the towels over the seeds and wet them. Place another plate over the bottom one face down on the bottom one, Keep the towel damp and check it every couple of days. When the seed germinate, or sprout place in a small paper cup and as it out grows the cup place it in another bigger container til it is ready to plant outside.
Happy pine tree growing. Big Dave
