GRID DOWN: Death of a Nation Report

Grid Down: Death of a Nation, is an eye-opening report on the psychology and physiology of Human Desperation, Starvation, and living in a world Without-Rule-of-Law. This report was originally created for the U.S. Air Force Electromagnetic Defense Task Force and is referenced in its 2019 report.

"Grid Down: Death of a Nation" is a resource for emergency planners in the public or private sector who are interested in understanding the societal implications of a long-term grid-down scenario brought on by an EMP attack, a massive CME (solar flare), devastating cyber-attack, or physical attack that could potentially destroy America's electric grid.

This is certainly an issue. The first line of defense for the prepper is a Faraday cage. It can be as simple as a metal trash can with some improvements to shield your electronics from the surge.

I bought some 55 gallon drums for that purpose; and I have some solar panels wrapped in aluminum foil; but that really isn't what this report is about. For starters, it is expected that 90% of the US population would die off in the first year of a grid down scenario; and that it might not come back up in our lifetime. I would strongly encourage you to follow the link. and download the PDF for study. The information contained comes from highly credible sources.

Another free highly informative resource: Nuclear War Survival Skills
It does seem like the world is sliding towards a big war. Slipping down the hill as if it's covered in ice.

An EMP would be a likely early step when it comes. And then the other targets. To the west of me are the Nebraska Sandhills, which house lots of ICBMs. They are nested together in a way that they can't be hit all at once because one incoming nuke would prematurely fry the next incoming nuke. So the detonations have to be spaced out considerably. Which means that area will get hit a few hundred times and for days and the fallout will blow east and poison me.

The same is true in Minot, ND, at the missile base there.I worked the fields for 3 years while in the USAF. One hundred fifty missile silos spread over the western half of the state. Used to have 150 more at Fargo at the time. If ND had succeeded from the nation, it would have been the 3rd most powerful nation in the world with 300 Minuteman missiles and B-52s on the side. If war had broken out, the state would be one big hole in the ground. The fallout would have spread north and east... turning Canada into a nuclear wasteland all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.

No doubt. All Empires have a life span; and they tend to come to an end when their fiat currencies are inflated to the point where people lose confidence in the currency. Right now, the only thing propping up the US dollar, is that it's the cleanest shirt in the dirty laundry basket; as people of other nations flock to the US dollar to hedge against their own failing currencies.

I can't think of a case where an Empire ceded it's power without a fight.

An EMP would be a likely early step when it comes.
That would make sense strategically. I have heard that technically that would not be considered a nuclear strike. It would however take out the grid that our military depends on. It would also take out the GPS satellites. ICBMs depend on GPS for guidance. Yes, they have gyroscopes for guidance; but they don't provide accuracy. It can mean the difference of a strike hitting a city center, or landing somewhere in the countryside.

That, and again,, I have read, and heard, many experts on the subject claim that 90% of the US population would die off in the first year of a grid down situation.

This book reveals detailed information on this subject:

It's an older edition; but it's free.

Something as big as a garbage can would need a tight-fitting lid to prevent electromagnetic radiation (EMR) leaks through the cracks. Although cracks with any length to them seem insignificant to the causal observer, they were one of the causes of much EMI trouble in the design of oscilloscope plug-ins at Tektronix when I was there. Cracks need to have short lengths. The circumference of the can is a long crack.

An EMP event consists of three stages, each with a different kind of radiation. The third and longest-lasting, is what takes out power grids. The EM intensity and current density are huge, and steel is not the best conductor and will absorb much of the EMR or current rather than reflect it. In absorbing it, the steel can will heat and possibly melt. A copper container has better shielding properties.
