Hi, Yes He Was! You're in luck because I love Reformation history (not saying I'm any good at it, though). However, my brain is a bit gelatinous right now due to a cold, so any sort of Reformation history answers may take a while to appear. Also, all my books are packed away in my garage, and getting DH to unpack them (like he still hasn't done with "C vs F"!) may take a feat as well. *sigh* Anyway, I will try to come up with the Reformation history answers you seek, and please feel free to ask questions. I'm a convert and still very much learning about my faith, so anything you ask will help me learn too!

It was not Calvin which taught that Communion was symbolic only, it was Zwingli, and Luther did have very strong words for Zwingli.

Calvin taught that Christ is truly present also, but posited that Christ was Really, but Spiritually present.
