  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Like many things in life we must first be an example to others, which is what I was getting at. Once we do that then those of like mind will naturally coalesce into a group working together toward a common goal.

Agreed.

Actually what is see is some of the biggest hypocrites of all on the left, Al Gore comes to mind, leaving the biggest carbon foot print of all while preaching to others about how to minimize their. Or Nancy Pelosi saying that she is trying to save the planet while flying all over the place in her tax paid jet. No there is a big smoke screen in all of this and most people don't know how to look through the fog and get to the truth.

Sure. Maybe it's just that the left has a better propaganda campaign than the right when it comes to the environment ... just keep in mind that it's dangerous to generalize too much.

For example how may high ground people do you know that quit driving, stopped using machines, don't use electricity, grow their own food, are much like the Amish (these people are about as eco friendly as anyone on earth these days). I don't know any, although there may be some.

My earlier point is that cars, machines, electricity, are not bad. These things are not, of themselves, environmentally destructive. Some of the "noble savages" and ascetic groups we like to idolize are also some of the worst environmental offenders. In fact, current historical theory is that poor stewardship of the land is what caused the fall of some ancient civilizations such as the Mayans. We can still live in a technologically advanced society as long as we remain good stewards of our resources.

I think that leftists believe they have the high ground, but in reality we are all on the same playing field. For example how may high ground people do you know that quit driving, stopped using machines, don't use electricity, grow their own food, are much like the Amish (these people are about as eco friendly as anyone on earth these days). So, if one person commits adultery and says it is wrong to commit adultery, and another says it is good to commit adultery and commits adultery, who has the moral high ground?

Incidentally, it is not hypocritical to say that society should address our environmental problems yet not lift a finger oneself to do so.

Well that is right, they have a better propaganda machine. But I am not about propaganda I am about action. Unfortunately I can't act for anyone but myself and I am actively involved in minimizing any negative impact I may have on this world while I am here, such is the nature of stewardship.

Incidentally, it is not hypocritical to say that society should address our environmental problems yet not lift a finger oneself to do so.

Incidentally if someone is complaining about anything and not doing anything about it when they can do something about it, what ever the it may be at the time, they are hypocritical and need to get involved or shut up. People that preach and don't act are as guilty as anyone and are counterproductive to any cause. They stir the pot just for the joy of watching others flail about. As for your silly question no one has the high ground in that case. The highest ground is the one that acts responsibly, behave appropriately, helps others to do the same while not preaching at them. Those have no moral impact are the ones that preach and yet commit the very crimes they are preaching about. Maybe you can't see that but that is the truth, believe it or not. Defending hypocrites doesn't help your position either.

I think that liberals have the high ground on this issue in theory more than in fact. They tend to (hypothetically) care more about the issue than conservatives, and some of them are more likely to actually do something, but others (Al Gore included, if he still has the massive house and private jet) only have the high ground in theory. I think the reason that conservatives tend to fail massively on environmental issues is more partisan bickering than anything. If it sounds "Democratic", then they're not going to have anything to do with it. So, they relinquish the high ground on the issue and sink into this strange valley of agreeing with anything that doesn't sound liberal.

Personally, I'm a conservative who thinks that we're headed for a horrific disaster if we don't do something about the amount of oil that we waste every year. Something serious, rather than just drilling for more oil (which we should do provided we do it sanely, but not as our sole plan for the future).
