  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think most of American Idiot is anti-Bush, if not directly at least in concept.

Green Day (along with most pop-punk bands) decided to get really vocal about their political views with their recent albums. And I believe Green Day was pretty adamant in their dissent for Bush and the war.

I'm not sure if this is what you are getting at, but don't stop listening to them just because they have different ideas than you. Listening to people with differing viewpoints helps us stay balanced and forces us to be discerning. If you like Green Day, listen to them -- not for their politics, but for their music.

I don't know what KROQ is. But generally, when radiostations and such have these "Top Bands" lists, they cater them to their listening audience. That list probably wasn't really trying to have a list that actually objetively weighed the merits of all artists, they were probably just trying to make their listeners think that they listen to good music and that their station plays good music. At least, that's what I have seen. I'm not familiar with the specific case in question though.

you are right about that, but it still disgusted me!! FYI...KROQ is the big rock station here in Los Angeles. It's pretty popular all over the world.

I am a little surprised that they would have the audacity to list a band from the past decade or so as greater than all of the bands that made similar music years before (and better too). I mean, without the Ramones and the Clash, there would have been no Green Day.

Some people are stupid.

ok that's what i thought. i am very strong conservative but i still like them (and american idiot was an ok song, it was slightly annoying though, but not because of the things they said) i think boulevard of broken dreams is a really good song except they play it wayyyy too much.

their early stuff was really good...

yeah... i dont really mind the cussing mostly because they mostly bleep or cut it out when i listen to the radio, but in "boulevard of broken dreams", its so blatantly obvious and even though he's trying to describe the way he feels and everything, and any other word probably wouldnt convey how he feels. also it's kinda funny to see what they replace the word with on different stations... the best so far was "stuffed"

Green Day is pretty anti-government really, especially the American Idiot album. But still, I love their music and believe them to be quite talented. If they cut out the cussing, that would be nice and there music would still be just as good, but honestly, stuff like that is everywhere and I guess I (and many others) find myself quite de-sensitized to it now.

Basket Case will probably always be my favorite Green Day song, though. Off their new album I like: Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and Jesus of Suburbia.

Its all about Dookie. I still listen to that album ALL the time.
I remember getting it when it first came out (I was like in grade 6 or summin) although at least now I kinda understand what some of the songs are about a little more ;)

Dookie opened my eyes to a whole other world of music. Sometimes I wonder what I would listen to now if I had never bought that album.

No kidding. It was one of the first albums that I listened to that wasnt in my parents collection. I swear I played that thing until it wore out (hello cassette tape ;) )

After hearing that album, I started to get into a ton of other stuff. I really think that Dookie is one of the best albums of the 90s (of course I still say Nevermind is the best )
