  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Green Day appreciation thread

I just wanted to make mention of the fact that these guys have been churning out stellar albums for 14 years. This all culminated last week with their finest work to date, American Idiot. Nimrod was the benchmark for Green Day and they somehow surpassed that when I thought that they could not. Their lyrics and songwriting ability have imporved with every album to the point where they now experiment with many different types of sound and pull it all together...in one song. Who else thinks Green Day is awesome?

In my opinion, Green Day has been all downhill since Dookie, with the exception of a few good songs. I haven't heard the new album in its totality, but the "American Idiot" single seemed to have subpar lyrics/songwriting. I've heard it praised as their best song, but I believe that those reviewers are getting too caught up in the anti-Bush movement, and forgetting about the music.

i agree.

i'm not a huge fan. but i appreciate their music (and afterall, that's what this thread is all about)

i also think it's cool that they've stuck around for more than 14 years. and i've heard from many people that this new album is their best.

i think the whole celebrity/politics/anti-bush thing is stupid. But even my favorite band, DMB, is touring against bush, so whatever.

they're a cool band. I'm not huge into punk, but i really don't mind Green Day.

I agree that American Idiot's definitely not their best song - my fave, whilst overplayed at end of school functions and the like - is Time Of Your Life. On the whole, I don't mind them - the songs from Nimrod that got airplay were good, and some of their earlier stuff is good as well. :)
