  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The reason I think the evolution theory is so dumb, is that the ancient Greeks came up with it. It's just so old and out dated, and there's been nothing to prove it.

Setting aside the fact that the ancient Greeks did not come up with the modern theory of evolution, the ancient Greeks came up with pythagoras's theorem and euclidian geometry. Do you think those ideas are dumb?

Further, there have been many evidences discovered for evolution. You can find out about them in this forum. Or you can go examine talkorigins.

You know what else is dumb? Some dead Greek guy Eratosthenes thought the Earth was a sphere, and his guess of the Earth's circumference was something between 39,690 km to 46,620 km (we don't know his actual estimate because he measured stuff in stadia, stupid Greeks and there non-metric system). It's actually 40,008 km. He so overestimated it.

Firstly Andrelj, welcome.

Secondly, what the heck are you doing here? Why does a 12 year old feel qualified to have input into a scientific debate? Do your parents know you are here? Do you have some thoughts on quantum mechanics you'd like to share with us? Or fluid dynamics? Or string theory? Or complex numbers? Or Van der Walls's forces? Or surface tension?

go back to school. no I mean really. you're 12. get a proper book and learn what you are on about before you make stupid mistakes like that. I have been reading about evolution since before you were even born and believe me, everything you said there is just wrong.

Posts like these bother me. Not because of the ignorance of the poster - the kid is 12. I can't imagine the **** I probably believed at that age.

But, being 12, and sounding so much like your average creationist here, we can make an inference or two about where this information is undoubtedly coming from. Home. Church. Community.

It honestly sickens me to see kids like this brainwashed with the usual YEC nonsense. These are the same people who, 20 years from now, will write an article for AIG or ICR about all the "evidence" against evolution, and how absurd it is, and maybe even how they "used to be an evolutionist" (maybe at 8?).

Now, let me say up front that I don't doubt that this particular poster is actually 12 years old, but just beware that not everybody puts their real birth date in their profiles. We do have a couple one year old posters here, and I don't think that is their real age.

actually, aristotle thought about darwinism, and then rejected it. he said that things don't happen by accident (a tooth doesn't come into being by chance or accident) but things have a pointedness (a tooth comes into being because there is this action called chewing).

The interesting thing about these kinds of threads is that right after logical devestating arguments like the OP, creationists will also claim that the ToE is wrong because it is (relatively) new and that the Bible (their interpretation of it, to be specific) is right because it is old. This OP is the appeal to novelty fallacy, and previous creationist claims fit the appeal to tradition fallacy.

You guys, lay off the "Well he's 12" stuff.

Seriously, he's probably never been addressed as a thinking person before -- I know I hadn't when I came to the internet. That's probably why he has his ideas -- no one has taken the time to engage him in earnest discussion because of his age.

Give him some time, treat him with a measure of courtesy, and maybe he'll surprise you. He obviously cares enough about the subject at 12 to dig up this forum, register, and post...
