  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

None of the above. The King of Hollywood-Clark Gable-is the greatest actor of all time, but of course I might be a little biased seeing that I've had a crush on him my entire life
Wow, you must be ooolld..Russell Crowe, today; Jack Nicholson, then - Easy Rider is just priceless and what he says about freedom in it rings true even today; Marlon Brando could make an otherwise terrible movie at least interesting same as Crowe can - they both can/could really carry the whole movie with their presence; Then, then, would be Jimmy Stuart, James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart.

And of course, we all know that that

William Schatner is the best, hands down..

What's so great about Morgan Freeman? He plays the same charecter in every movie I've ever seen him in. He's like Arnold Swarzenegger, he seems typecast in every movies he's in. And screen presence and gravitas, which he has a lot of, does not an actor make. Great actors can convincling play a wide range of charecters, which I have not seen Mr. Freeman do.

For example Peter Sellers played about 3 different charecters in "dr. Strangelove".
Also, Mike Myers is a good actor for playing multiple roles convinclingly in one movie.
And he has a good range of charecter across his career, Wayne is quite different from Austin who is different from Dr. Evil, fat b------, etc. Too bad his talent is wasted in the 2nd and third Austin powers movies.

At first, I thought Morgan Freeman should be on this list, even before I even got to the page. However, as great an actor I think he is, I don't think he shows much range in the characters he plays; and by this, I mean to say that he will typically play roles in which he is typecast for (*cough* forensic pathologist). In no way am I suggesting that he has no range ~he just isn't "allowed" to show that much range in the roles he plays. I love Morgan Freeman; I just don't think he quite earns this title (just yet).

I think a great actor should be one who proves himself to be versatile & be able to play roles of varying levels of intellectual capability, as well as comedic talent, an actor who "pulls you in" every single time, an actor who can make you cry (and yeah, while watching the Shawshank Redemption, I totally cried but still), an actor who can make you think (lol as oxymoronic as that might seem) & an actor that you always care about ~whether you love him or hate him, you want to see that he always gets what's coming to him.

Out of your list, Hoffman, Freeman and Pacino stand out. Again, I'm just not too sure I can vote for if any of those you've selected with full confidence. I'd thought of Wil Smith, as well. I know he isn't the Greatest (though he has played the Greatest..;) ), but he has shown that he can play far more serious roles with richer content, as well as off-the-wall comdies & senseless action roles to boot. Meh, I dunno. *shrug*
