  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What is your goal or dreams for retirement days?

I always pictured myself running a bait shop while my husband served as a fishing guide. The bait shop would give me something to do and people to talk to while he was gone. And since he was so passionate about fishing, I honestly found him terribly sexy in overalls with no shirt, rubber boots, and slight hint of the odor of fish slime. I expected to see him this way every day...when we had gray hair (or he was bald).

Now my dream is less defined. However, sitting on a porch next to a lake in rocking chairs at sunset or during a violent storm....kind of still fits in there somewhere. I can do without the fish slime and bait house though...because that was distinctly my life with Billy. Although I am looking forward to being a nurse, I really hope that the rest of my days aren't spent only caring for people that I don't know....

Either "nerd" is attractive at a "mature" age or else you are far from "nerdy" because that sounds like an adventurous retirement.

As for the antennas...I wouldn't have an issue as long as my man taught me what they were for...(but maybe I have a bit of a nerdy side myself). Just learn a little bit about gardening so that you can landscape around the antennas. LOL Most women find the stars romantic...so you might find a woman willing and even actually interested...if for nothing beyond just sitting under the stars with you. :)

I was sitting in my clinical when we were discussing various conditions the patients had and one had this cool little filter attached to her heart to filter out any clots before they get to the heart. All of a sudden my engineering side kicked in and I started wonder what they put in the materials of that filter that must leach a clot busting medication since you can't just preform regular mainatence on something on your insides to "change" this filter when it fills up. So maybe I'll end up in research and go completely nerdy myself. :)

That is so cool! A lot of inventions start with someone being observant and thinking about using something in a new way. :)

Wow! Well I had my post halfway done and my STUPID computer froze so grrrrrr!

It's fun to dream although I don't expect my dreams to become realized at this stage of the game. If money weren't a huge object, I would love to travel. I love seeing new places.
One place I have always wanted to visit was Australia. Don't know why but ever since I can remember I have wanted to go there, but the price to go has always been so astronomical.

I would also like to see all 50 states and in that trip visit Mt. Rushmore and some cool spots in each state. I've been to Florida, lived in Ft. Worth for about 6 months and I have a friend that lives on Pine Island on the Gulf side. I have also lived in Wyoming, Washington, California and Arizona. Been thru some states driving, like Texas and all the states along I-10 from CA to FL.

I would also like to join a roller coaster club and plan a vacation where I would fly to different amusement parks, maybe starting with Cedar Point, OH and ride all the roller coasters and meet up with other people that love to do the same.

And I would love to go on several more cruises. I was fortunate to go on one in Europe in 2010 and I LOVED IT! Never considered myself a boat person ( I saw poseidon adventure!) but I really did enjoy it and I wish I could just cruise around alot! LOL.

I would also like to see I can't remember if it's the Aztec Ruins or the Myan but you have to hike up like a bazillion miles but the pictures are breathtaking and that would be spectacular.

Of course I would not want to do this alone, I am dreaming after all.

There are two things that I've said I'd like to do after I retire:
1. finish hiking the AT.
2. Spend a summer in the Rockies so I can see all of them.

Like Michelle, I hope I have someone to travel with.

Sorry I'm a little slow this morning (well every morning really lol) what is the AT?

Of course my ULTIMATE dream is that everyone who is going to get saved hurry and do it, so Jesus can come back and we can truly live in Paradise for ETERNITY! WITH CHRIST!

That's my ultimate dream. I look forward, not only to seeing my loved ones again, but to experience the world as God intended it before the fall. So I could swim in the ocean (if there is one) without fear that sharks or some other creatures will attack me.

Or in any river or anywhere and not worry about wild animals or flesh eating bacteria or any other darn thing this broken world has to offer.

But we won't have any gray hair then!...so that is a post-gray hair dream. :)

Are you sure? ;) The bible DOES say that a gray head is a crown of glory (Proverbs 16:31)...so I wouldn't be so sure of that :p

And a trip to the clouds to meet Jesus in the air would be the trip of a lifetime would it not?

To be totally honest I have not really thought about this. And I already have gray hair on my beard but not a trace on my head

Probably just continue to do some form of ministry as long as I am able. I know my life is boring :o

Is your ministry boring? really? And TBH I don't really think about my dreams that often because I don't expect them to come true so....But occasionally it IS fun to play the dream game

No I mean people may talk about travelling around the world and stuff. I may travel but my place is here in Toronto ministering to the poor and some may not think that sounds 'exciting' post retirement. It is not boring. I am privaledged to see and learn things that others may not in doing so. Oh this is an imagination game I did not know. I haz a big imagination lol.

Well in MY case it's an imagination game LOL.

If I did not have to work I would LOVE to volunteer to help the less fortunate whether it be children or helping in a soup kitchen or delivering food or making HIV kits for Africa. I have a heart for people and would love to have time to do that instead of having to work 2 jobs.

Understood. I am a social worker so my job is my ministry.

when I was younger I first wanted to be a teacher. But then at that time we had too many teachers so I "thought" I would like being a social worker, but later decided against it, because I felt like I had enough of my own problems I didn't think I could handle my own problems AND someone else's.
I applaud you for being able to do that AND for having your job as your ministry. excellent!

Thanks :)

I am a social worker but also have my own struggles. To be honest that translates into empathy in my ministry because I understand existentially others who struggle. Not that I want to be struggling but I think my gentle understanding of my faults helps me be more gentle and non-judgmental of the failings of others :)

I think that gray head is a crown of glory on Earth...but expect a wonderful variety of bright hair colors in heaven. :)

Gray is an aging process where the hair is losing its color...it is degradation...nothing in heaven will be a degraded version of anything. (IMO of course).

I personally expect the brightest colors that the youngest children wear.

I will have white hair when it all goes gray...just like my momma and her mom...(I know, the evidence is there).

I think if I get a choice in heaven, I'll have a firey auburn like my husband did. If not, I'll settle for a much brighter blond that I have right now.

...and I want curls and enough hair to make a decent looking ponytail...(I have fine, thin hair .... and can pull it all up in a normal barrette).
