Grandparents visiting.

For those who have grandparents who live interstate, how often do they visit or you visit them?
We are having some issues with grandparents and it would be handy to get some idea as to what would be considered the normal number of interstate visits would happen.

DS's grandparents don't live interstate - only 2 hours by car. So we see both sets weekly/fortnightly.

But MY grandparents live interstate. I see them once a year. This was the same when I was a child. Once a year. They almost never came to us, we went to them.

Before my kids were schoolaged, we always lived within walking distance of at least one set of grandparents...so we saw them, or at least the kids did, a few times a week. My mil would pick them up on her way home from work and then drop them off the next morning before work at least once a week. Sometimes a grandparent would come over for bath time...dinner...a few times a week was the norm. I think it was great for my kids to feel so loved by so many family members.

Now that they are older and in school...we see them @ 3 times a month during the school year...more in the summer.

All our family is one hour away. We see them once a week.

Families @ kiddos school that have g-ma/g-pa in other states see them once a year.

My parents and my wife's parents both live in IL, we live in MN . . . it is a six hour drive pushing hard (speeding a little but not too much) & not including stops. Our parents live three hours apart from each other. It is about four times a year, for each set of parents (eight grandparent visits per year) coming to visit us (though my father sometimes comes up just by himself in addition to that). We go back to IL usually about twice a year, usually visiting her folks in Chicago and then driving south to mine then home or driving south to my parents and then up to hers and home. So six times our kids see their grandparents per year, on the average . . . with additional visits by my father*.

* my father and I are pretty close & my wife likes him (as opposed to my mother who drives us both nuts) he is retired and my mother is still working . . . so he can get away. We have room for 1 guest to sleep so he isn't racking up a hotel bill. It isn't as weird as it sounds.

My parents live in Ohio and we're in TX (it's about 1800 miles away). We used to see them once a year~ one year we'd go there, and the next they'd come here~ but now it's gotten to be more spread out.

DH's mom and family all live here, in the same city with us. We rarely see them either! Family just doesn't seem as important to DH's side of the family, which is weird considering they're Mexican/American.

My family, twice a year in the summer, they come up from GA to IA for a week, we go down to GA for a week. This is so that my dad can recertify my FIL in flying. My dad is a flight instructor and my FIL is a pilot, they get along great.

Hubby's parents we see weekly, well I see MIL daily as we work together. We live in the same town and work as bus drivers.

One set of g-parents lives in town so the kids see them a lot. The other set lives 500 miles away and they see them about 3 times a year or so, sometimes more, sometimes less.

DS's nana came up to see him born(she lives in FL, we live in OH), and she's coming back up in March. We could have gone down for Christmas,... but driving all that way with an infant was just not reasonable. Next year we will probably go down to see her at Christmas. So, I'd say on average - once a year we will see her.

He doesn't have any other grandparents. I don't speak to my parents anymore.

We live with his greatgrandparents, so he sees them everyday.
