Thread: A Soul for a Secret

Name: Governess Irelin Siledur
Gender: Female
Age: 36
Height: 5’7’’
Weight: 129
Occupation: Governess of Brynne

Appearance: Irelin has slightly tanned skin with thick, long hair; raven black that reaches to her waist. No one ever sees her hair completely down as she frequently ties it up in elaborate hair designs, though she only uses decorations and jewelry when it’s absolutely necessary to look exquisite. Her eyes are oval, brown with slightly arched eyebrows and crows feet on the corners. She has high cheekbones, a high forehead, a long nose, and a thin upper lip. Overall, she’s not really that attractive, but she holds a confidence in her stature that more than makes up for it.

Personality: Irelin has a calm demeanor over most situations, but becomes frustrated if everything starts falling apart and she doesn’t have a strict plan to go on. She’s incredibly independent when it comes to her personal life, preferring instead to lead by herself, though she has no qualms over the occasional advice and help people might offer. In fact, she looks highly upon those with more experience and who are wise. She’s noble and honorable; caring deeply for those under her command, but she tends to keep her good heart on the inside instead of putting it out there. Although she’s quite opinionated and hard to convince once she has her mind set, she’s not overly boisterous. It takes a lot for her to trust someone, but when she does, she puts all her heart into it. She’s confident but not cocky; powerful but graceful in all her demands. A true feminine superiority.

Background: Irelin grew up in Ashton Valley with her parents (Locien and Gemma) and two younger sisters (Gwyneth and Karina)—distant family members of Lord Arnau from his father’s side. But although that might have seemed prosperous, they were stuck on the bottom of the chain as background relatives. In fact, Irelin has never outright met her distant cousin from Floresco, so while she is blood related, her close family has been given no special treatment.

At sixteen she was married to Colonel Darius Siledur of the regiment in Brynne. It was an arrangement, so needless to say their relationship was mainly about propriety. Especially since he was in his late twenties when they married, her still a mere child. A couple years later, Darius’ father tragically died after a riding accident when he was thrown from his horse, making his eldest son Governor of Brynne and Irelin Governess. However, he continued his position as Colonel in the military, so while he juggled most of the responsibilities in the army force, Irelin did so with Brynne’s general welfare. And both attempted to hold together an estranged marriage.

But Darius was good to her. He was patient and gentle, understanding his wife’s immaturity and inexperience came from her young age. When she was twenty, he claimed to have fallen in love with her, though Irelin herself was uncertain, trying hard to return the feelings her husband seemed to desire. But she couldn’t. That did not mean she didn’t care for him; she did but as far as their affection went it was almost nonexistent. During this time, she attempted to somehow hold a form of friendship in their marriage, and began becoming more involved with what he seemed to love—his military life—in hopes they could have something in common. And it worked. While she didn’t outright join the brigade, she trained in weaponry, physical combat, and often times advised him in strategic maneuvers.

Things seemed to be going good until Irelin was twenty-eight and Nolan Raul came into their lives, Darius’ fellow officer who transferred to Brynne. Him and Irelin had a brief affair at which point she believed they were in love, only to find later he was married, and he chose instead to go back to his wife. And she was left with an angry and hurt husband of her own. Arguments ensued where she confessed that she did not love him, never had and never would. Eventually instead of fighting they just stopped talking altogether, going their own separate ways in their work during the day, and only seeing each other at night when they slept (though they went to bed at sporadic times, so even that was debatable).

It wasn’t for another couple years when Ireline was thirty that their marriage drastically changed. Darius had come upon secrets from someone in Lord Arnau’s esteem Florescan army, suggesting that the monarch was…much less than perfect. He planned to use said information to dethrone the lord and replace order with a more worthy ruler. When Ireline found out, she didn’t believe it, feeling a sense of duty to her distant cousin and that Darius’ contact was only trying to devastate Rhytium. But Darius wouldn’t hear of it, threatening to take what he knew to the council. In a last act to save Lord Arnau (and then essentially all of Rhytium), Irelin planned to have her husband killed.

With little money of her own, she needed one who would be willing to do so without (or with little) payment. That’s how she came across the league of assassins who focused mainly on corrupted victims—the Brotherhood. Figuring that her reason for wanting Darius wouldn’t be enough to consider him “corrupted”, she lied to the Brotherhood, painting her husband as an evil man. She succeeded. They believed her, and when she had gone on a trip to visit her sister in another town, her husband was murdered.

But things didn’t go quite as planned. Not only was Irelin struck with a surprising amount of guilt and actually suffered over the loss of her husband, but the Brotherhood found out about her lies. And in turn, she came upon the name of her husband’s alleged killer—Asher Rimedur—Lord Weylin’s son who had disappeared years ago from Glahndur. The tables were turned and she became the victim, not only knowing too much, but the Brotherhood had taken an extreme offense to her lies, considering her corrupt herself. A mark was placed on her head, a nightmare that lasted for the next four years until she was thirty-four. And then, just like that, they disappeared. Irelin survived, Lord Arnau’s reputation was still intact, she was never accused of her husband’s death (though she was suspected), and she continued her own govern over Brynne and the army force.

Around this time is when her father perished, and Irelin took on the employment of her father’s high advisor, a woman that had been entrusted into the family for many years—Ciara Vassar. She became Irelin’s closest companion and she trusted everything to the older woman. So when she came to her a year later and suggested her son, Ethan Vassar, take on the main focus of Brynne’s military, Irelin agreed. And that is where she had been since, Governess of Brynne and childless widow with a secret that has weighed heavily on her for quite some time.
