I made my point, everyone knows how I feel, no one thinks I'll leave if the congregation takes over the services but I don't feel I can stay if they do. I'll probably hear something tomorrow, got to go in the morning and run some more braille.

It seems to me that your church president is thinking of some things without thinking of them all.

For instance, he could point to writings saying if you were all stranded on an island you, as the church could pick someone to be the minister, and he's be right.

The fly in the ointment, is that your congregation, when you joined the LCMS agreed not to call any minister who is not on the roles of the LCMS. Your president is not on the roles so him becoming minister, even temporarily, goes against the given word of the congregation.

It's the same reason why if a pastor is removed from the roles the congregation is given the choice to remove him or leave the LCMS.

Even when we find our agreement we entered into are not the best still it seems to me the bible teaches we are to honor them.

For instance when the nation of Israel was to take over the promised land, they were deceived by some people who were close at hand that these people were from far away. So they made an agreement with them. Now even though the people used trickery to get the agreement, and even though God had specifically forbid them from entering into such agreements, once the agreement was made, they kept it.

Or when everyone swore not to give their daughter to the tribe of was it Benjamin? Instead of breaking their oath, they let the Benjaminites take women as their wives so the oath was not broken.

Better not to enter into such oaths but your congregation has taken such an oath and now it should live with it.

If it had not taken such an oath, you could call and ordain the president as your pastor, but now you do not have that choice available, so he should not pretend to be called when he is not.

Noone has said anything yet, not sure whether to ask either. I'll probably get the runaround like I have before on other things, with them knowing I'll leave if they voted not to have some pastors come in and do the services. I do quite a bit at church when they let me.

One lady last night, she's on the council, said something about getting an interim pastor just to come and do the business end and have speakers come. This pastor's mother in law said I guess the majority don't want the old pastor's coming, there's 4 retired pastors around and 1 that's in his 40's that doesn't have a church, long story, that can come help. Still don't know what's going to happen.

I still hope they do get other pastors to come speak and get out of their I don't like these old pastors so I don't want them here thing. I don't care how old or young a pastor is as long as he's preaching right. One is in his early 70's, he was the pastor at the church I came from, good man, a few don't want him to come. One excuse is his sermon's are to long and takes to long to get to the point. I just wish I could come up with something when people say some of the things they say, I get so frustrated.

My thought is, when it comes to getting a list of pastors the congregation is going to call, where are they going to come up with that list? Out of the church president's sleeve? Why would the DP give his "A list" to this church that is so head stong? DP may send his bulldogs. I hope he sees the wisdom of not sending them a candidate.

I help with tutoring at church, we were supposed to have a couple of kids show up yesterday but didn't. I decided to ask the person that helps with tutoring, he's on the council, no one else was around. He said that this one pastor of one of the other church's is going to be the interim pastor and we're going to have guest speakers. I heard so many complain about they don't want the old retired pastors to come. I told him that everyone keeps talking about stepping out of their comfort zones and they need to do it with this accept these pastors to come speak and to remember its only temporary.

i think that sounds like a fine plan until a pastor accepts the call...you still have communion & help from an ordained pastor, but you also have some different people coming to speak which is a nice break

they aren't willing to step out of the comfort zone, but are willing to take communion from someone other than a pastor?

It was the president who's a layperson that said that the council could vote on it to let him give communion if a pastor wasn't around. His wife and someone else was trying to get it everyone else to agree to let the congregation do the services.

He's going to the layperson thing, he's almost finished with it, I told him a couple of pastors said a layperson can't give communion if a pastors not around, he said they lied and that they told him at school he could give communion.

And their is no one else around but him to do it, I suppose . It seems he's not too interested in finding that out either.
I find his attitude frightening, to say the least.
