I think that it's good that you're looking into things like this. I want to caution you to study the Bible, as its own Truth, before looking into other ideas.

As for the wood, as I understand things from a simple google-type search, the Hebrew word used that was translated "gopher" was actually something else. It's the letters, "g-f-r" with no "ph" in the word. So, no American gophers involved.

Some think that the wood was teak, because it was common to the area and suitable for the purpose... IDK.
