I don't think the point was necessarily ever to get enough votes.

How much money do they get no matter what happens ?

How much free or otherwise publicity/ television/ media coverage ?

How much political coin for going along with the subterfuge /deceitfulness ?

It's worth considering.

All the talk has been about whether there might be enough Republican defectors in the Senate to make a conviction possible, but it really is more likely that 10% or so of the Democrats in the House would balk at putting their careers on the line over something like this, when their re-election is less than a year away.

And this would be the easiest way for Pelosi to get out of her fix. She cannot very well call off the hearings or the vote in committee, but she probably could pull the plug in a less than obvious way by allowing just enough Democrats to vote against impeachment so that the Senate never has to take it up and the matter is settled before the primaries. And then she and others could always go on claiming that they had the goods on the president, etc. etc. if they thought that would serve their purposes.

Trump is going to get impeached. The sooner Republicans accept this and move on, the less it will hurt. If it’s any consolation, he’s almost certainly not going to be convicted by this hyper partisan Republican led senate, so you can always comfort yourself with that.

Good Day,

The hyper partisan house can file impeachment articles... but the judicial responsibility to decide if those articles are even valid under legal standards of evidence will be decided by the Senate. The house has to prove it's case. The final decision of the legal conviction that would cause impeachment is the role of the Senate.. not the house they can prosecute the defendant and the defendant has full rights to defend and the Senate will be the final objective judge on the matter.

In Him,

Bill

Sorry but that’s not correct. Both Nixon and Clinton were both impeached. Impeachment is just the process of leveling the charges like an indictment, any subsequent conviction or otherwise is a seperate process.

Good Day,

Technically you are correct... But the charges ( by the house ) alone are really meaningless without a firm conviction. Just like an indictment that is dismissed with out a finding.

Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton were impeached. Richard Nixon was not.

LOL, there seems to be a pattern there.

Good Day, Night

In both cases the impeachment articles were not adjudicated by the Senate. They both were not removed from office.

There is your pattern.

It would be worth it to see “Hand Grenade” Rudy and Mulvaney sweat out a cross examination.
