• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have decided after some thought that I will no longer remain on CF or OBOB. I feel that I can no longer post here as often as I like; or speak my mind as fully as I have been able to, whenever I first joined CF and OBOB. I shall not go into detail here.

This has been brewing for sometime. I have tried my best; however, I think it prudent to leave.

I am on Fisheaters Traditional Catholic Forum (same screen name as here) if you should like to chat there; or alternatively, I am on facebook. Private-message me with your facebook profile linked, if you should like to add me on facebook.

I realised at times, I may have be lax, at others: over-zealous; at others still, perhaps not as zealous as I have ought to have been.

If I have offended anyone here, caused any grief, hurt, any one to sin, or take issue with me: I beg your forgiveness.

May our Holy Saviour Jesus Christ bless you all. And may the Blessed Virgin Mary intercede for you; And be thy guide and protectress.
St Thomas More and St John Fisher orate pro nobis.

Goodbye,
Matthew

Thank you. If any of you are on facebook and would not mind adding a traditional Roman Catholic such as myself, please send me a pm with your facebook profile-link therein. Perhaps, we could keep in contact that way! I've already found Keenan ( good man!).

Pax Christi,
Matthew

You know where to find me bro and I you.

Being here is like attending a protestant church in a sense.

Its not Catholic and Catholicism isn't defended or supported here so just being here is like being a fish out of water.

The thing to keep in the back of ones mind is that an internet community can never substitute for a Church or a real life.

That realization is the only way to blow off all the pluralistic nonsense that goes on here and be here to serve God and please only him because in all actuality, nothing anyone says here can be taken as relevant to the truth of the faith.

I mean sure, many of us are doing our best to be faithful and Loyal to Mother Church and must truth is spoken but we are all laity and everything, even when of the best of intents, must be discerned here.

Being here is an exercise in the virtues of patience, charity and humility. If you don't find yourself growing in any of those or in discernment of spirits then being here can also be a near occasion.

Taking a break is a great way to gain perspective. Don't feel you can never reconsider and if you do come back or decide to stick around from time to time, its best to do so without any expectation of being treated fairly by non-Catholics, having non-Catholics and lapsed Catholics understand the teachings of the Church or even the truth being justly upheld either for that matter.

Things that help one get by and survive around here are never loosing thier assurance that the Church is true and having humility when it does comes under attack by men and devils which is about every day. ;) Oh, and the hardest one for me, loving those who make themselves pariah or enemies of God.

Peace brother.

Exactly, Joab. I cannot defend my faith in my own safe-haven anymore. I remember whenever I first joined back in 2006: the forum then was chocked full of conservatives and traditionalists; OBOB was formerly a safe-haven for discussion of orthodox Catholicism. Now, it has become very pluralistic, theologically progressive, relativistic, etc.

I have tried my best, to stay: to brave through these waters if you will. However, I've come to the conclusions that some places, like some parishes and denominations that embrace liberalism and progressivism always seem to meet the fate that progressivism anywhere begets: theological and spiritual rot, confusion, and apostasy. And in the orthodox faithful this shows itself in frustration and resentment at being powerless, oftentimes to stop the flow of spiritual destruction.

I am not a Protestant anymore for a reason: for the simple reason, that I do not believe it to be true: or what we have received from our Saviour Jesus Christ.

I embrace this quotation from my signature of St Robert Bellarmine's and the quotation of St Athanasius with my whole heart and soul:

"It is granted to few to recognize the true [Holy Roman Catholic] Church amid the darkness of so many schisms and heresies, and to fewer still so to love the truth which they have seen as to fly to its embrace."
—St Robert Bellarmine

And here is St Athanasius's quotation:
"Even if Catholics faithful to Tradition are reduced to a handful, they are the ones who are the true Church of Jesus Christ." —St. Athanasius

I will miss you. We need a strong orthodox voice like yours here.

Goodbye,
Matthew

Matthew, I totally understand... the situation around here is hard on all of us, not just you. None us of can post with out some unwarranted and unmerited repercussion but I digress.

The only concern I have with you not being here is you will lose yourself in that Trad site.

You need balance, and I feel this site gives you balance where Fish Eaters are just to far off to the right.
