According to the National Park Service's website (Park seeks input on the rehabilitation of Welcome Park - Independence National Historical Park (U.S. National Park Service)), the Penn statue will not be reinstalled at this location.

Note that the much more famous statue of Penn that stands atop City Hall is NOT the state being discussed. The City Hall statue will remain at its current location.

I haven't actually been to Welcome Park. I suppose I should visit before the renovation happens. But I don't think there's any serious danger of William Penn being forgotten in Philadelphia. He's well-regarded and well-remembered here. (And in Penns Grove, and in Pennsville... ) I don't think his reputation will be harmed if some other people get to be remembered in Philadelphia monuments too.

BTW, William Penn never was a citizen of the United States, His loyalty was to the King of England.

He’s not being erased. It’s one statue relocated. Another is still very prominent a top city hall.

I've never even heard of this park or this statute, and I imagine most outside of Philadelphia can say the same. Also, this is at this point only a proposed change and there is a comment period to respond against it. But honestly, since one of the things Penn is known for is his deep relationship with the local tribes, having a larger native representation makes sense to me.

btw, if one reads the Park Service website asking for public input, there is in fact a proposed redesign of Williman Penn's birthplace underway.
