Good Things About Being Single (and not looking)

I second that!

I like being able to just sit at home for an evening and hang out with my dog if I want to...without someone getting offended that I'd rather spend a night alone than with a special someone.

I like being able to jaunt off for a weekend with friends without letting someone know where I'm going to be.

And much much more, I'm sure!

Mmm. I think both being single and looking is the worst situation. Before university I was happy as could be. On arriving at university seeing other people in relationships etc put a lot of pressure on me to find a girl, and the amount of stress it caused: having to dress well and look presentable all the time, agonising over whether or not a girl likes me and finding the nerve to ask her out, being plunged into despair if a girl rejects me, feeling self-conscious and nervous with women,feeling a pang of jealousy and loneliness every time I see a couple in love, and even joining an ballroom dancing class in the hope of meeting women

I have now given up on looking for a girl for the moment and the sense of release it has given me has been incredible. I don't spend my time worrying about girls freeing my mind up for more productive thought. I can dress like a slob. I can talk to girls a lot more easily without the pressure of trying to make them like me. But the best thing is not having to go to watch romantic chick flicks like Love Actually with girls and pretend to like them

If you can't find enough horrible stories among your friends and family, you could lurk in the Marriage Ministry forum for a while. Some of that stuff could scare anyone out of wanting to get married, or even finding a mate.
Being single is simply safer.

I like pink poodles, gnomes, and Hello Kitty. My entire bathroom is done in hot pink. I like my time of singleness. My alone time. My time to indulge in my single behavior. You know, the stuff you would never do in front of a member of the opposite sex. You know, like paying $8.00 for a pie, only eating one slice, and then throwing the rest of it away because you feel guilty. You don't have a SO chastising you for wasting money. Have you ever listened to disco music while cooking? Have you ever watched a TV show or a movie (think Care Bears the Movie or Pippi Longstocking) that you would die before letting a SO know you enjoy. You don't have to ask anyone permission to go out with friends. You don't have to put up with the guilt trips. There is no "where were you tonight? Well why didn't you call? Why are you using that tone of voice?". Wow, my list could go on and on.

The really wonderful thing is this: When we find the one God has for us, well, many of those "issues" listed above will no longer be "issues". We'll be able to do the things we want to do, except we'll be doing it with someone else....which is pretty dang cool. At least that's the way I look at it.

wow, I LOVE all of your answers, 'specially the ones that mentioned God shaping us to be the person we should be BEFORE we meet our future mates (ha, I said "mates")..but I loved msjones' the best! haha..unfortunately though, I don't have many single friends anymore and the married ones..well, we have a different dynamic now, it's still all good, but while i can be out all night, they can't ...wait......

the independence of being single is wonderful!!! all my friends who have boyfriends are always calling them, always telling them where they are, who they're with, what they're doing....give me a break. and the freedom of being able to go out with friends or on a random trip without running it past someone else, or worrying that they'll be jealous/hurt/offended, etc is priceless.
