I find it sad that so many people are so mistrusting (is that a word? ) of Christianity, but I can see why, it's not the faith it's the vocal followers of said faith. There's a quote I found quite awhile ago (back when I was neo-pagan, which kind of explains the wording of it) but the quote is "fundies are fundies whether the quote the lord or the goddess" - Unknown and I think I just went off on a tangent. Sorry about that.

Any follower of a certain faith will have trouble understanding someone elses, I'm sure you probably couldn't understand the intricacies (Sp?) of my faith, no matter how much you read. I could read the Bible cover to cover, and study as much as I can and never truly understand, simply because I am not and never have been Christian. Hey I don't even understand everything about my own faith yet, and I'm sure many Christians can say the same. We are ever learning. :)

Anyways, that you for your responses, if I have any more questions I'll make sure to ask.

Senebty!

First: Hello and Welcome to CF.

I hope you have a wonderful time here, and that we can answer your questions, Also, please take some time to look around the forums, we have many subjects to discuss anything from Cars to Music. Or what ever you enjoy.

On to your Question:

I would like to start off by saying that you can not become a Christian out of Fear of Hell.

This sounds odd at first, but, you need to think about this, if you are not a Christian, then there is no Hell. You first must accept Christ as real and true, before you can fear Hell in any form. As such, you can not become a Christian, out of fear of Hell.

Why do people become Christians, because, they accept that God is real. Once they accept that God is real, then they want to go to Heaven (Or where ever they think God might be) to be with God. Thus, the question is... How do I get to Heaven?

That brings us to Christ. Christ is the Path to Heaven.

Now, once we accept Christ, we then must turn from our wicked ways, repent our sins, and then pick up our cross and follow Christ.

But we do not do this to avoid Hell, we do this, because we want to go to Heaven to be with God.

I am not sure if I explained that well at all.

God Bless

...it is true that there are many different religions people can choose to follow or not. I think there will be one end result that will effect all religions, because it will effect all people. Some religions will know exactly what is going on... some wont. Some will know God, some wont. That's innevitable. I cannot deny my religion because it is older than dirt itself.
...as for the study of religion it is truely an on going process, but when you say that people may have a hard time understanding other religions it is true, especially when everyone is so "stuck" on being the "right one". I love through christianity for many reasons, God has worked miracles in my family long before I was ever in my families mind. Walking with God through life brings me joy, gratitude, integrity, honor, and pride, not of myself, but of what God gives me.
...my testimony to this is that before I knew God and before I accepted Jesus Christ as my saviour my life was being held back from truely being right. I made so many wrong choices, because back then when I didn't look to Jesus I looked to my parents. And trust me that wasn't great so great, and when I didn't look to Jesus I looked to my friends, again lame choice. I didn't have the greatest choice of friends. I know my story isn't the same as others, but when I got together with Godly people my life just got better.
...there was so many times in my life when I would lie, I would say yeh I accepted Christ. Of course I did, but back then I didn't understand what "accepting" Christ really meant. I am just rambling...

In Him,

Hello, I'm new here. I have a question though, which was really the reason I joined these forums. I've had discussions about this with other christians before, but I'm curious as to what others think about it. Okay so here is my question:

Since it is through the acceptance of Jesus as your saviour that you gain entrance into heaven, do your actions in this world not matter if you truly accept him?
Hey
Yes they do. If he is truly accepted then you will not keep up that bad behavior, being born again is a nature change for the person who has recevied there sin forgiven and Salvation has taken place, so that New Nature comes in and the person will not go directly back to old ways, some it takes time but the moment salvation happens that person has started there process of Change that God has planned out for them.

If the read the word, it will be like gentle waters over rough edged stone, change must take time so the hard object is not shatted but reshaped and smoothed over.

That is the process for a christian, God reshapes you but if he did it all at once it would break us.

So attitude is being stiff neck to God and he must correct us, we choose our own punishments by our action, God will give someone space to quit but then
pow right in the kisser. Trust me he know how to get you to call out for him.

Yes, bad actions get your butt spanked, Good action will bless your life, a loose life would mean they didn't become truly born from above, that would be impossible to do and not be destroyed, according to scriptures.

Being a Non-Christian does not necessarily mean you don't believe in hell, it may not be the fire and brimstone and such, but a seperation from the Divine or something similar to that, yes. I do understand your point though, you can't fake it, you can't pretend to be something you are not because in the end god will know. That works for any faith out there (even if you personally don't believe in it, the followers do.).

twiststheoak:
What do you think that end result will be? I believe that too in a sense, most likely a lot differently than you do, but I believe we end up in the same place if we are good people and do Ma'at. I can't deny my religion for the same reason, but I won't argue about who's faith is older to be honest. There is no point because I believe they are equally valid.
To be honest I've never really had a life changing experience in terms of changing my ways, I'm happy to hear when people have, I've just always been fairly level headed and morally strong (not to say others aren't!) that I realized on my own when I was making bad decisions. My life did change when I found Netjer, but it was like a piece that was missing suddenly went "click" into place, more than a drastic changing of my ways. :) Thank you for your answer.

revmalone:
That makes sense, so is it just the intention to change your ways that matters? If you don't get a chance to you are still saved, am I correct in assuming this?
Thank you :)
