• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What are some books that have helped you?

I would highly recommend The Gospel According to Job which can be read like a devotional and Making Sense out of Suffering for anybody who is suffering (probably all of us here).

I'm going to read Disappointment with God by Yancey and the Bipolar Survival Guide. Has anyone read the latter? What did you think of it from a Christian perspective?

lemonflavor  i rejoyce for your thread! and happy to give you reputation points for such a blessed topic  !

the books that helped me except life when i knew God's decision was not to heal me... were the book of Job, Ecclesiastes, and then James 1, Philippians 3 & 4, and 1 Peter. they walked me through the seasons of spiritual growth and with the discription of spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:10-18) my daily walk with Christ became many fruitful blessings.

Ecclesiastes has always been very special and comforting to me, too. I did read the Bipolar Survival Guide, but I don't recall much about it. If I'm remembering right, there was not a Christian perspective. But I could be wrong. Maybe somebody else knows more about it.

I do know that my mother read it and it helped her to better understand my illness.:)

PSALMS!!!

If anyone understood my depression, it was King David. And of course Job. Then are many individual verses. And my favorite relaxation tapes that combine verses, soft music and nature sounds.

I have found two books written by Christians with Bipolar
"In the Pit" by Nancy Hagerman and "Seek His Face, He will Provide" by Gayle L Darhower

Also extremely helpful Christain books for me but not directly about bipolar, more about healthy thinking patterns are "The Myth of the Submissive Christian Woman", "The Velveteen Woman" both by Brenda Waggoner and "Peculiar Grace" by Charlie Jones.

Thank you for this thread!!!

Hi. Were you able to read these or did you just come across the titles? I might buy both of them with a gift card I have because none of our libraries have them. But I'd like to know if people liked these books.

I have read and I liked both. Just honest telling of their tale and how they found recovery in a Christian viewpoint. There will always be things in anything that you may disagree with. Been over a year since I read and I have them loaned out almost constantly. I did find one thru ebay and one online at amazon (used), but Barnes and NOble (online) had them as well.

Peace all. Sometimes no scriptures can comfort me. (All the Scriptures are right, but I can not understand . ) If I read Bible by my mind, it is more wrong .

Oh, Amazing Lord (Word)of Life and Healing---I am here to worship, I am here to bow down, I am here to say that you are my God(Adonai).
