  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Arnold Poindexter: So what you're saying essentially is, is that along with infinite space which extends beyond perpetual bigness there's also infinite smallness?

Harold Wormser: [nods head in agreement]

Arnold Poindexter: How?

Harold Wormser: Easy. Take an asymptotic line and extend it outward.

Arnold Poindexter: Oh.

Stewart: Right, right, right. So perpetual bigness exists simultaneously with perpetual smallness. What was I thinking?

Ogre: What if uh C-A-T really spelled dog?

Arnold Poindexter: Wow.

Harold Wormser: God.

Stewart: Yeah.

Arnold Poindexter: That's heavy Ogre. Dog.

Then god thought he'd mix things up a bit and introduce a little guy we call Plasmodium, just to mess with us.

no He didn't - He had everything under control in Pandora's box - guess who opened the box and let the mosquitoes and all the other nasties out and some are still doing that to this day - twinc

You're mixing your myths up, but I'll answer your rhetorical question in kind.

Why would god/Zeus put all the bad things in this world into a box, give us mere mortals a key, then command us to not unlock it?

For someone who has everything under control, doesn't sound as if it's under control.

I thought that the Roman Catholic Church was opposed to moral relativism.

God, in His wisdom, gives us the pesky mosquito for two reasons. First is the idea of preventing wholesale outbreaks of disease by carrying small amounts of new things to each person or animal that it bites. We benefit much more often than not. Second the mosquito reminds us of the harsh living conditions on earth. This is good because we are prompted to be on our best behaviour all the time in case we die unexpectedly and have to answer for all those mosquitoes that we swatted.
