  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am not happy to admit when life handed me some challenges I picked up the habit, again. It's worse than before, because I KNOW better.

I also fear gaining weight etc if I quit.

Are there any good stop smoking programs with The Adventist church?

Well, when you find out, let me know!

Red posted a link to an Adventist program for smoking cessation, but the link was broken. He was going to repost it, but I think he forgot.

Thank-you, for the link. My children would be extremely happy if I quit.

I think all will be happy if you quit as it (smoking) benefits no one.

I used to smoke, but not heavily. Maybe a little more than half pack per day.

I had to quit when I got married. Because no man can serve two masters. ;) Either the cigarettes go or I go.

I found the toughest part is not the nicotine, but the feeling of puffing out a smoke and holding the cigarette with your fingers.

The mind is a powerful thing. I know if I dwell on those feelings and surround myself with people who smoke, I'll probably pick up smoking again. The key is not putting yourself in the position to fail.

I have heard many success stories of people quiting by the power of the Lord. And I had tried to help someone who really wanted to quit but carried cigarettes and a lighter in his pockets.

Get rid of all your cigarettes, lighters. Get around Christians who can give you the positive re-enforcements.

When all else fails, use your most powerful weapon: prayer. I have never fallen into temptation when I sincerely prayed for deliverance.

Hope this helps,
