  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

They'll be fine :)

Goldfish LOVE cold water and thrive in it. I have seen videos of goldfish swimming around in a pond with an inch of ice on top. We were having freeze warnings last winter and I had my red eared slider turtles outside. They got about a quarter inch layer of ice on their little pond and they were fine, you could see them crawling around under the ice.

See, watch this

We have 2 ponds. One is three feet deep and the fish (Koi) can go down in the bottom during the winter. The other is only a 2 foot deep pond. If ice forms on the top and completely seals the top make sure you take a hammer and pop a hole in it. The ammonia that outgasses will not be able to escape and will kill the fish. Tarps are good only if you take it off as soon as possible in the morning. (Same reason.) Also the water temp will go up too fast and may be too fast of a change for the fish to live in.

OH! Very important! If you have a natural bottom in your pond with leaves and gunk in it...leave it for the fish over the winter. Don't feed them after the daily temps get down to 50. In hibernation mode they can't digest and the food swells in them. They scavenge worms, algae and bugs at the bottom and only eat when it's safe.
