  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What up with "white gold"? Gold with silver added so that it looks like silver, right?

Can someone explain the appeal?

It's actually gold alloyed with nickel and/or some other less precious metal, depending on where you get it. Pretty much all gold has to be alloyed with something harder to function as jewelry since it's so soft on its own.

The appeal of white gold is that it has a silvery appearance but does not tarnish like silver does.

Okay. I guess I just don't like the name White Gold. It's like cubic zirconias compared to diamonds. (But I hate diamonds so maybe that's a bad analogy.)

But if I see a silver colored metal, I don't like to think of it as being "precious." I prefer to think of it as a silver compound. Or a steel compound.

18k white gold has the same amount of actual gold in it as 18k yellow gold, or 18k rose gold, for that matter. The only difference is what else is in the metal, which is what affects the color.

I can understand how yellow gold could seem more valuable or appealing though, since that's what people typically associate with gold.
