Hello folks. As most of us know, the Olympics are in full swing. The games feature gold, silver and bronze medals for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of each event. However, what gives gold a unique, metallic yellow color? Turns out that high speed electrons do.

Gold has a yellow color due to the properties of the higher level electrons around the central nucleus of the gold atom. These higher level electrons have high speeds of 58% the speed of light, which causes more blue light to be absorbed, letting longer wavelength light be mainly reflected off the atom, giving a yellowish appearance. This stuff is complicated...
Goes to show how God designed His creation with intricate detail such as protons, neutrons, electrons, and other particles invisible to the eye.

Hebrews 11:3 (NIV): " By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible."

'Gold is yellow' ergo 'God exists' is not a particularly bright theological argument. :liturgy:

Haha, true, but this post is meant for Christians and atheists alike to enjoy science. :) The atheist folks could choose to ignore the verses and stuff, and just marvel at the fact that an electron inside of gold goes 390 million miles an hour (630 million km/h), while Christians can enjoy the wonders of God's creation and the science behind it.

This medal is yellow cos of electrons moving at high speeds, pretty cool, isn't it?

This isn't science though. It's apologetics masked as science. You're trying to use scientific knowledge that was obtained through empirical observation and research and measurement to show that something that cannot be empirically shown that people believe might be true\real.

What maintains the speed of the electrons? That is, where do they get their energy from to keep going at "390 million miles an hour (630 million km/h)"?
Well, technically, electrons are in a cloud, of probability states.

It is complicated, brother:

My brother, I could use a spoiler function to appease the atheists, and hide the religious stuff in my post. Now, is this better? :)

Also, one more thing, @The IbanezerScrooge , this OP is mainly one for Christians, cos some of my fellow Christians here deny science (as in denying climate change, or other types of science). So, my intent is to show Christians that the Bible talked about how reality is made out of invisible parts, thousands of years before scientists discovered atoms.

The Physical & Life Sciences Forum is intended for discussing science in a science context. It's a place where science can be discussed without being sidetracked into religion vs science debates. You should know this. There are multiple forums available for discussing or debating science in a religious context.

This is a quote from the SoP:
The Physical & Life Sciences forum is a discussion and debate area on physics, biology, chemistry and other physical sciences. Other physical sciences may include but is not limited to astronomy, earth science, archeology, climate change, ecology, geology, oceanography and energy.
Physical Sciences address the nature and properties of non-living systems while life sciences address the nature and properties of living matter. This may include the way two or more of these have an effect on each other between observation, theory, deduction and application.

So, did I break SOP? I did not intend to do this, and only intended to tell the science deniers that science is real. My fellow Christian on here, @sjastro enjoys science as well and does astrophotography. Would this fit better under "Creation and Theistic Evolution"?

So, did I break SOP?
Yes.

We have a regular problem with posters misusing the Forum and intentionally side-tracking discussions on science topics with religious arguments. The forum is intended for both Christian and non-Christian members to discuss scientific concepts on their own merits or publish articles of scientific interest.
I did not intend to do this, and only intended to tell the science deniers that science is real.

Great - but this is not a Forum for arguing religious beliefs or the religious implications of scientific concepts.

Why not start a post in one of the Christians Only forums discussing why many Christians deny/reject science out of hand?
Would this fit better under "Creation and Theistic Evolution"?

It would fit under any Forum where a discussion of the religious implications of a scientific concept were valid. That's almost any other Forum. Creation & Theistic Evolution is usually the choice for general science vs religion issues and is not necessarily limited to Creationism. It also has the advantage of being Christians Only.

I do see your point, so I will let @FreeinChrist move this one to the "Creation & Theistic Evolution" subforum. There are sadly Christians here who still believe the Earth is flat, and that somehow believe that climate change is a hoax. I try to educate them, that data does not lie, and we live on a sphere that is heating up.

Thank you for correcting me. This thread will probably be moved by tomorrow, or even tonight, depending on when FreeInChrist hops online, as I do not have the ability to move my own posts yet.

I wish to acknowledge your readiness to listen to other viewpoints and to respond to alternate views positively, either by changing your position, or showing respect for the alternate view. If all members acted in a comparable way the forum would be a much more pleasant and rewarding place. Thank you.

You are welcome, brother. Also, thank you for the compliments, that means so much. And yes, I have changed my positions on many things. I do wish more folks compromise nowadays, so that is what I try to do myself. :) This forum has helped me understand different viewpoints better, as I talk with people from all walks of life, political views, and even different denominations. There are some things that I can still be stubborn about, but way less compared to a few years ago.

This stuff is complicated...
Light reflected is only half the story. Light gets filtered before it gets reflected. I work with crystal, transparent and semi precious stones all day. They crush them, polish them and then I use them for hobby type stuff that some people call art. Also I work with rhinestone that allows light to pass through. The different between precious and semi precious are the facets. It is still all in the way they handle the light.

Cool stuff, however, as @Occams Barber and @The IbanezerScrooge and @Ophiolite have said, this is not meant to be a thread for religious discussion. I do like your art though. Maybe, I can make a purely scientific post next time about glass that contains metal nanoparticles (dichroic glass). With that, I am sure all of us here would enjoy learning about glass. It is pretty earth shattering stuff, pun intended. ;)
