• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I took an antidepressant medication for over a year then stopped. I was off it for a year and am now taking it again. I have read that statistically every relapse of depression you have makes it more likely you will experience depression again. Have you found it difficult to stay well off medication? I am concerned that I will get trapped into a cycle of taking medication, going off it, then needing it again. I'm wondering if I need to do more work on relaxation, reducing stress and reducing negative thinking, the kinds of psychological tools we can use. The problem is when I am feeling fine I forget about this kind of thing and get lazy on working on my thought processes. It would be great if you could share your experiences. Thanks!

Hello Earth Angel:

I've battled depression for most of my life and will probably be on an anti-depresant for the rest of my life. I am, however, seeking alternatives which has allowed me to lower my dosage of the presecription. I was up to 80 mgms, the maxium dosage. I am down to half now.

I've been taking various supplements that seem to help my depression considerably. I have researched thyroid functioning and discovered that most people have a sluggish thyroid even though tests show the thyroid otherwise. I take kelp tablets and take a tablespoon of virgin coconut oil everyday. Research shows that coconut oil elevates thyroid functioning. Kelp tablets provide iodine which the Thyroid requires to function.

I also detox regularly with detox tea and supplemental antioxidants. I take mega doses of Vit. C and take green tea caps.

LTriptophan is back on the market. LTriptophan is the amino acid the brain requires to produce Seritonin. Antidepressants elevate Seritonin levels to prevent depression. Low Seritonin levels is the cause of physiological depression.

Lastly, I exercise. Whatever I am doing has helped considerably and has made it possible for me to reduce the dosage of my antidepressant. But the best medicine is making the committent to glorifying the Lord by shining throughout the day. I go out of my way to smile and to make others smile. I go out of my way to be nice at work. I, also, work to keep the Lord in my heart, soul, mind in every breath. Staying present in Him is the ultimate lift. Staying present in Him is the best feeling ever. The secret to happiness and peace is to let God sit in the driver's seat and trust Him completely. When we try to do God's work, we get exhausted and warn down because God won't relinquish His control. He's our cheauffer through life. To try and take that away from Him is like trying to lift a semi truck with our bare hands. It can't be done (unless God wills it). We break the chains of bondage by putting complete trust in God and letting Him take charge of our lives. Over and over the bible tells us to trust in Him, to put the Kingdom of God first, and to constantly seek and pray. Relinquish self and your will to God. Get out of the driver seat and relax.

No God, No Peace
Know God, Know Peace
