Armageddon seems to be tied to the river Euphrates, which implies the region in the Middle East, the cradle of civilisation. The battle of Gog and Magog seems to encompass the whole world.
My reasons are listed below:
1) two first beast, one which is familiar to John, the other is a wonder and a mystery.
2) two harlots, great Babylon and mystery Babylon, one which is familiar to John the other is a wonder and a mystery.
3) Armageddon is a localised Middle East battle signified by the river Euphrates
4) God and Magog is a global battle encompassing all nations in all four quarters of the globe (North, East, South and West)
5) the second harlot has daughters the first harlot doesn't
6) the Armageddon first beast is when the first beast was before receiving the mortal wound
7) the Gog And Magog first beast is when the first beasts is yet to come, after the original first beats received the mortal wound
8) the first beast before mortal wound has sixth king as his head.
9) the second fist beast that comes later has the seventh resurrected king (eighth)
10) the first beast came up from amongst the existing civilisations signified by river Euphrates
11) the second first beast comes up because a second lamb/Christ like beast gives life to his image yet once again.
12) satan after the first beast falls, is imprisoned.
13) satan after the future first beast falls, is killed in the lake of fire.
14) after the battle of Armageddon nations are allowed to continue for a short space of time
15) after the Gog And Magog battle the nations of the world become the Lord's, meaning they get owned and no longer continue.
16) the rivived first beast and women are located in the wilderness, meaning in newly discovered continents and not part of the the cradle of civilisation, ie. river Euphrates.
There are more points but this short list highlights vast contrast between the two events and the very pinion point to be made regard the second whorish women is as follows:
Revelation 17:3
So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
And
Revelation 17:15
And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the harlot sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
This second harlot's religious crowning glory is that she is comprised of members from all nations. This was not so with the original women who would keep to herself and was tied solely to the first beast national enterprise
I believe what gives it away is that John when shown this vision is absolutely dumb founded. John says
I wondered with great admiration, why?
John being a Jew, who is familiar with the original first beast, who was situated in the river Euphrates symbolically speaking, is now dumb founded as to who this unknown (mysterious) beast and women are. In fact he needs help from the angel to spell it out for him:
And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mysteryof the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns
John was familiar with the the original first beast and harlot located where the symbol of the river Euphrates is in the Middle East, yet here he is completely taken of guard to the indentity of this revived first beast and women (religious system) who has daughters. It is evident that this is unfamiliar terrritory for John and this future beast is in the wilderness, well away from where John was brought up, in the Middle East.
The first beast was in John's time, however the revived beast is in the future.
