CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I wonder about that myself. if I read a verse in the Bible that speaks to me i assume it is God. if two people give me the same advice i also assume it is God.

I can't help but notice that if I ignore something God is trying to tell me, or push it aside and think that maybe it was my own thinking. That He will use someone else to confirm what he was saying to me.

First of all NEVER listen to the voice of any god. Now if God is speaking to you, you can check it against His written Word. If it doesn't line up, it was either yourself or a god of some sort. God will never contradict Himself.

I make sure I run EVERYTHING I do, & EVERY decision I make through the Bible, as that is the way God speaks to us.
That is the ONLY SURE way to know it is God, and not yourself (or worse).

I have heard the voice of God very Clear, and did not tell me a particular sentence written in the Bible... YOU HAVE TO BE PREPARED...
Later, one prophet told me I will be just like Samuel...You will hear God´s voice.

You may not find exactly what God is saying in a particular verse in the bible...but as Gerry said...God will NEVER contradict Himself. So if you feel you have been 'told' something by God, if the bible contradicts what has been 'told' to you, you can then know that it is NOT of God.

This is just for me. Since my relationship has grown with the Lord. I do hear the Lord speak to me. One day I was going down a street and in my own voice I heard go back and go another way. I listened and when I get to the corner I heard a shot and just where I was walking there was gun fire. So I belive that God does speak to me. You have to have a ear to hear. For me it comes by staying in the word and reading the word and by servicing the Lord. Yes when it's all said and done the Bible is my answer to so many things also. The Bible has everything in it. There is nothing that is going on in today's world that hasn't been already done. It's in the Good Book.

There are times when God impress my Spirit within me and on my heart. But every now and then (not lately though) I hear God as if He were speaking in a voice. Its hard to communicate it, because its not a voice like you and I have a voice. It has only happened to me three times and each time it wasn't a prophetic word but more of a direction He wanted me to take. Once it was to stop at a girlfriend's house (she was a mess and needed me big time). The second time it was to attend a women's retreat (i mentioned something about that in another post). The thrid time, it was to tell me that my grandmother "is one of My sheep"(my grandmother died two months later, her real estate agent had lead her to Christ before she died). Each time, I had an extreme peace, and knowing that it was God. It wasn't anything I was expecting, or praying for, etc. I t just happened,.
God speaks to us everyday through His Word and people who are in our lives. Our growth comes from *Preachign to myself* reading and meditating on His word EVERY day, and going to prayer with Him personally. In order to be effective, we need to "GO" into the world, fellowship with each other as we live obedient to Him.
Don't make my mistake anyone out there: READ and MEDITATE His word each day...continue to fellowship with each other. If you are not doing this, you allow satan a stronghold in your life.

This is pretty much how God Speaks to me also. I try to keep my entire person open because God will use a great number of things to speak with us.
If you are in doubt you need to test it. God does not mind that you test what you hear with the ear you cannot see.
A prophetic word that is given or word of God will align with scripture and be fullfilled. Sometimes the prophetic word may not be entirely clear as to it's meaning but will come out in the long run. My sheep now my voice comes to mind.

I have heard a very clear voice say once "Just love her" when I was going through a decision about what to do in a relationship. I had asked so many questions and God said oh so much in 3 words. You know love does not contradict the Bible! lol
I continually pray that my "ears" may be opened to hear His voice more often. Listen and obey... the only true way to live. It's all about Jesus!
Bible study is fun too... a verse can "speak" to me sometimes. So do word-based sermons. My two cents

Isn't it beautiful the simplicity of God can be so great.
