  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's commonly said among us Calvinists that God died for the elect but yet his death was sufficient to save all. If God only died for his sheep as scripture says in most of John 10 how is it everybody isn't saved if his death was sufficient to save all?

Good day,

Sufficient in it's capacity to atone , effective in it's intended scope of atonement.

Calvinists are comparing two things in your quote above. When Calvinists say that Christ died for the elect, they are speaking of the extent of the atonement. When they say that Christ death is sufficient for all they are speaking of the value of the atonement. Christ death is of infinite value. If God decided to save another 100 trillion, Christ would not have needed to suffer a little more. Christs death is of infinite value but he gave all that value to the elect. We are saved to the uttermost!

The way you put this, God (Jesus) only died for His sheep as Scripture says.
So His death is sufficient for ALL HIS SHEEP.
Everybody is not saved because He doesn't save those who are not HIS SHEEP.
