  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Scripture says God created us for His glory (Isa. 43:7) and instructs us to “do everything for the glory of God” (1 Cor. 10:31). ... To glorify God is not to bestow glory on God or add to His glory, but to recognize and acknowledge His glory.

Also says we will be glorified at His return.

ok .... so what is God's glory? I have an idea about it but want to see what others think first.

John 17:5 has a lot of different translations, which to me help define what God's glory is, or at least, what brings him glory. Where we are familiar with Christ saying, "...glorify me in your presence with the glory I with you before the world existed", several translations say things like "...glorify me with yourself..." as though simply being together(?) is, to the Father and Son, glorifying.

Sometimes, also, it seems that 'to reveal his glory' is the same thing as 'bringing him glory'. In worship, we 'point at' what is already there, concerning God.

The Hebrew word is *kabodh*, the general sense of which is “heaviness, weight”; and (by extension) *importance*. To give *kabodh* to God is to recognise his importance, with all that that implies in practice and life.

The very same concept lies behind the command which in English is commonly translated as “Honour your father and your mother”. A more strictly literal translation would be, “glorify your father and your mother”. In other words, give to them the importance that is their due.

To give this quality to another person is very commonly the act of an inferior to a superior.
As is clear from the Hebrew Bible, it is ascribed to God, but not only to God.

A related word, *kabittu*, occurs in Akkadian, which was the spoken language of Babylonia and Assyria during most of the OT period.

I think it is His perfect character ... the complete goodness of who He is.

Exodus 33

18 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”

19 And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence ...

It's not a ego thing with Him .... it's who He is. God is good. God is love.

1 Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Ephesians 5:27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

1 Peter 2:20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
