  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Gah, HOOTERS! *shudder* Worse than strip clubs. Like, I would go to a strip club, and possbily enjoy it, but Hooters just skeeves me out.

At a strip club, there's no secret about what the point of the whole thing is. You're there to look at people's bodies. Awesome. As long as that's out in the open, that's a fine and dandy goal. Godspeed to you.

But Hooters....that "healthy, normal restaurant" veil just makes the skeeviness worse. Hey! They're not strippers! They're not prostitutes! They're just waitresses...

This is just what waitresses are! Being ogled is just part of the waitressing job!

The normalcy of it just reenforces the worst aspects of subtle sexism: the idea that women who are just doing their job, going about their business, exist for men's enjoyment.

With strip-clubs, it's open: the women (or maybe men) are deliberately doing something for the patrons to enjoy. With Hooters it's just this passive, pervasive idea: "Hey...that's what they're for, right? That's what breasts are for, waitresses, women..." Bleh.

I'm in agreement. I'm less worried about the blatant ogling of women who are making it their job being naked, and more worried about the line being blurred between non-sex professions and permission to ogle.

The purpose of the strippers IS to make money as sexually desirable objects. If she's doing her job well, customer satisfaction entails ogling.

The mixing of waitressing with the sexual appeal reinforces the pervasive pairing of non-sex professionalism with sexual objectification. Ostensibly, they're "just" waitresses, but the clear implication is that you're also supposed to objectify them while they work.

Women have enough trouble navigating the public (and professional) realm without any reinforcement of the idea that it's acceptable to assess a woman's sex appeal while she works.

I've been following this thread for a while. I need to bring in some perspective.

Has your husband ever visited a public beach, hot tub, sunbathing spot, or swimming pool while married to you? Have you ever worn a swimsuit or bikini in any of the mentioned places while men who were not your husband could see you?

Do you see what I'm getting at?

The girls at Hooters wear much more clothing than your typical beach bunny. They wear more modest clothing than most of the women your see at gyms. Yet are you concerned when your husband goes to the gym, or to the beach, or drives by a pool?

If your husband called and said, "Hey, my daughter wants me to take her to the beach," would you have been equally concerned about the situation? Do you see? Is there a pattern forming in your head?

Hooters has good wings. I used to order takeout from Hooters for lunch when I lived in the city. I have been to Hooters a number of times. It's good food. The girls are nice. I am not overcome by lust.

Perhaps the real issue here is not your husband's choice of restaurant, but your own jealousy or fear that he does not find you as attractive as he does younger women. Unless your husband is going to Hooters an inordinate number of times or you catch him ogling other women, I think you're overreacting. I mean, have you asked him about it? Have you talked to him about your feelings regarding the place?

If you are that concerned, do yourself a favor: type "hooters uniform" in Google Images. Look at the first three or four pictures. Judge for yourself whether or not you think that it's such a big deal.

I'd suggest trying some of their wings, too.

I was only in Hooters once. The whole open secret idea of the place made me a bit uncomfortable. I had no interest in ever returning there, but the 911 sauce sounds very tempting. I may have to overlook my discomfort to get a try of their fire.

Yeah, fan of wings, too. Do they do take-out?

Yes. Takeout is the only way I'd be able to keep those ABSOLUTELY DIVINE wings down. ;)

ETA: Mling. You are the only other soul I have ever "met" who uses the word "Skeeve" like I do. You get reps for this odd coincidence. Honestly, I thought I made that word up, but the truth is I must've heard it somewhere before, and just forgotten that I had.

I've gone to Hooters before, and the food was great...(I guess it depends on the location)...Go in for food, what is the problem?

I hear the food is good also, haven't gone to one though, well there are none near me to go to.

Hooters. LOL.

Hooters is full of a bunch of old, horny men who like to stare at boobs. Funny thing is, for all the trashy, skimpy clothes the Hooters waitresses wear, I've never seen a nice rack on a single one of them - and my city has two Hooters locations. Their little orange shorts are all the way up their butt cracks though. I feel sorry for those girls, but at the same time, I just have to laugh because the whole thing is just ridiculous.

THAT said, Hooters has the BEST hotwings in town. THE best. 10 traditional wings, breaded, Three-mile Island (or 911) sauce. They will burn you UP, but are so, so good!

The first paragraph of your post is spot on.

But going off topic here, to purists (like myself) wings should NEVER be breaded. The real and true hot wing, as created in Buffalo, is deep fried naked, then tossed with butter and hot sauce. Hooters wings are properly hot, but the breading makes them too filling.

P.S. Will they be changing the name of Three Mile Island wings to Fukishima Dai-ichi wings? :sorry:

You're in luck, Jayem! They will prepare the wings naked if you request it. When I was on my low carb diet, those were a blessing! :)

IMO (in my opinion). I never go to Hooters for the girls, i go for the wings. They honestley have some kind of special sauce for them as I have never found wings from anywhere else as good (except for one local pizza shop i dined at).

Most of the women who work at Hooters aren't nearly attractive enough to distract me from my precious, precious wings.

what we're we talking about? Oh yeah, if he didn't tell you the whole truth then he either A) thinks it's okay and thinks that you would overreact, or B) Knows that deep down it was wrong didnt tell you everything to hide his shame. But did he tell you the entire truth? I don't i didnt read the thread thoroughly.

could be either, I'll let you decide since I'm assuming you know him better (hopefully).

And would the good man who suggeted that good wings should never be breaded, announce himself so i may congratulate him on his wisdom in the finer points of dining and life itself?
