The first one I can see that you have a legitimate complaint. The call was made to all Americans, and it asked you to do something you could not ethically do. The latter, however, I cannot, as it was said in a cathedral, and the "we" being spoken of was, I am assumng, the theists gathered there in worship. I would place the latter in the category of him not acting as president. Please correct me if I am wrong, or if you feel otherwise.

For him, it did... For those gathered in a synagogue, it was a solely Jewish day of prayer, and for those in a mosque it was only a muslim day of prayer. Where the president, as a citizen, chose to participate in the day does nothing to diminish anyone else's participation at another locale. He didn't "hold it" anywhere... it was for everyone, everywhere who desired participation, wherever they wanted to participate. That is freedom of religion.

There isn't anything to understand. he is speaking as best he knows how and you're yelling at him becuase he didn't name the cow worshiping society, or some other group specifically. PC at its worst.

‘Godless Americans’ plan march on Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Americans who think there is too much focus on God and faith in America, particularly since Sept. 11 of last year, are planning a Nov. 2 “Godless Americans March on Washington.”

More than 70 atheist, secularist and humanist individuals and organizations across the nation are planning to participate in the event at the mall in the nation’s capital. Included will be such groups as the Council for Secular Humanism, African Americans for Humanism, American Atheists and the Atheist Alliance International.

“Just about every other political or social ‘cause’ group, from women to African Americans to the Promise Keepers, has taken a stand there, on the mall, in our nation’s capital,” said Ellen Johnson, chairwoman of the task force coordinating the event. “They’ve demanded ‘a place at the table,’ a role in public policy decision making, a voice in the great discussion called democracy. This march is for us—not the religious folks who happen to agree with us, on some occasions, with the idea of church-state separation. This is about our rights as Godless Americans.”

Katherine Bourdonnay, of the Council for Secular Humanism, in an interview with Cybercast News Service, declared that America “was founded as a secular nation with a distinct separation of church and state.”

“We are participating in this march to reclaim the American nation as a secular nation because we feel its being moved more and more to a religious nation,” she told the news service.

But Ray Sharp of the American Family Association said that the nation has actually moved from its godly roots to an increasingly godless tilt—a shift that does not reflect the true sentiments of a majority of Americans. Quoting James Madison’s famous declaration that religious faith is the “basis and foundation of government,” he said that government and religion “have always been intertwined since the founding of this nation, especially when you look at the many, many quotes from our Founding Fathers in which they relied on God for the establishment of our nation.”

Sharp said that the increase in focus on spiritual things among Americans since Sept. 11 is due to the “recognition that Christianity is well entwined in our nation as a whole, and as well in our government. You can’t separate the two.”

A recent survey by the American Religious Identification Survey found that about 13 percent of the American population identify themselves as atheists—a total of about 30 million people.

The Religious Freedom Coalition is about more than legislation. If it has to do with the social conservative cause in the United States the Religious Freedom Coalition is probably involved in some way. That is why the Religious Freedom Coalition plans an aggressive campaign to challenge the “Godless Americans March on Washington” to be held in DC on November 2, 2002.

The “Godless Americans March” includes such groups as Atheists Anonymous, Freedom from Religion, Christians vs. Atheists Club, Queers For Racial & Economic Justice, Maggot Punks and United Satanic Converine. Their entire event and all of their press releases are based on the lie that there are 30,000,000 ‘godless’ Americans. Their source for this claim is the American Religious Identification Survey by City University of New York which states that there are 902,000 atheists. Then the atheists go on to claim that the 27,000,000 Americans who are not part of an organized religion are ‘their’ people. Atheists just can’t be truthful; they twist things.

The Religious Freedom Coalition will run newspaper advertisements the day before and the day of the atheist event, pointing out to them the fallacies of their beliefs and calling upon them to give up their sinful secular lives and repent of their sin.

The Religious Freedom Coalition newspaper ads compare atheist and other godless views to those of Satanists, whose creed is, “Do what you wilt shall be the only law.” THE TEXT OF OUR ADVERTISMENT ADDRESSED TO THE GODLESS APPEARS BELOW:

Atheism is a system of sin denial. Godless people deny Him because they decry and violate His laws and His love.

The tenets of atheism, secularism, Satanism and other godless belief systems are identical. Each individual should do as he or she pleases.

The godless claim that there is no good or evil and each person must decide for himself what is right and wrong. The godless present their philosophy as new, declaring it for the 21st century. Yet, it is the oldest of philosophies, first mentioned in the Bible in the book of Genesis. It was the serpent, in tempting Eve, who said, "...your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." For the past 6,000 years of human history the philosophy of the serpent has fought the Word of God.

Recent victories belong to the godless. The authority of God was removed from the schools in 1963 and replaced with the logic of man. But the self-determination of good and evil failed and has been replaced with the iron fist of government. The Ten Commandments have been removed from the school walls and replaced by metal detectors, video cameras and window bars. Many school systems now have their own police force, with armed guards at the door and students wearing ID's. Children are murdering children while their teachers are forbidden to teach the difference between right and wrong. These are your great contemporary victories - temporary victories!

The philosophies of men and their perversions are fleeting, but God is forever. There is no longer a Roman Empire, but the cause of Christ still lives on. There is no longer an atheist Soviet Union, but the cause of Christ still lives on, as Boris Yeltsin kissed the Bible after being sworn in as the first freely elected president of Russia. One day the United States of America may be a thing of the past, but the Bible and the Cross of Christ will prevail then as now.

God is forever and eventually every knee shall bow to His awesome power. Each one of us will bow to Him either in thankfulness for the eternal life we will have with Him in heaven, or we will bow in fear for the judgment of transgressions against Him and His Word.

Repent of your sin. Put the perversions of your secular life behind you and turn to Christ. He is your Saviour. He is your Rescuer. He is your Lifeboat of grace to eternal life.

'Godless Americans' March on Washington

Atheists are promising to become a political force.

This weekend thousands of people are expected to gather at the U.S. Capitol for what's being called the "Godless Americans March on Washington." Atheists say they're being discriminated against and they want their voices heard.

The atheists say there's too much of God in our society today and now they want equal time. The rally is an attempt to focus on their needs.

Ellen Johnson, president of American Atheists — the organizer of the march — is claiming victim status for atheists.

"The discrimination is there," Johnson said. "It's hard to tell your parents that you're an atheist because a lot of them are devastated. And in the public schools as well, your peers and classmates might treat you differently try and set you up for proselytization."

Johnson expects this rally will become a time for those self-described "Godless Americans" to unite and stand together for what they believe.

Paul Weyrich, president of the Free Congress Foundation, summarized his reaction to the march succinctly:

"It's utter nonsense," Weyrich said. "It is a mark of how far America has declined that these folks would even dare gather together and have this march."

Pointing to the 1950s, he noted, "When we had a true God-fearing nation, we were the most ordered, moral nation on earth."

But then came the '60s and a moral slide away from God.

"They have declined in exact proportion to those people who have abandoned their belief in God and who have abandoned their Church," Weyrich said.

That has led to this — a rally for people who are looking for a better America but simply don't know where to find it.

American Atheists said atheists plan to become a political force on Capitol Hill and it's through events like this one that they will build their base. Some of the latest numbers show 13 percent of the population has no religion.

Please pray that God will reveal Himself in a very real way to those this weekend who claim He doesn't exist. Please also pray for their salvation.

The following exchange took place at the Chicago airport between Robert I. Sherman of American American Atheist Press and George Bush, on August 27 1987. Sherman is a fully accredited reporter, and was present by invitation as a member of the press corps. The Republican presidential nominee was there to announce federal disaster relief for Illinois. The discussion turned to the presidential primary:

GB: "I guess I'm pretty weak in the atheist community. Faith in God is important to me."



RS: "Surely you recognize the equal citizenship and patriotism of Americans who are atheists?"



GB: "No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."



RS: "Do you support as a sound constitutional principle the separation of state and church?"



GB: "Yes, I support the separation of church and state. I'm just not very high on atheists."

UPI reported on May 8, 1989, that various atheist organizations were still angry over the remarks.

The exchange appeared in the Boulder Daily Camera on Monday February 27, 1989. It can also be found in Free Inquiry magazine, Fall 1988 issue, Volume 8, Number 4, page 16.

On October 29, 1988, Mr. Sherman had a confrontation with Ed Murnane, co-chairman of the Bush-Quayle '88 Illinois campaign. This concerned a lawsuit Mr. Sherman had filed to stop the Community Consolidated School District 21 (Chicago, Illinois) from forcing his first-grade atheist son to pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States as "one nation under God" (Bush's phrase). The following conversation took place:



RS: "American Atheists filed the Pledge of Allegiance lawsuit yesterday. Does the Bush campaign have an official response to this filing?"

EM: "It's (censored profanity)."

RS: "What is (censored profanity)?"

EM: "Everything that American Atheists does, Rob, is (censored profanity)."

RS: "Thank you for telling me what the official position of the Bush campaign is on this issue."

EM: "You're welcome." After Bush's election, American Atheists wrote to Bush asking him to retract his statement. On February 21st 1989, C. Boyden Gray, Counsel to the President, replied on White House stationery that Bush substantively stood by his original statement, and wrote:

"As you are aware, the President is a religious man who neither supports atheism nor believes that atheism should be unnecessarily encouraged or supported by the government."

Pretty scary to have sucn an intolerant government. I suppose deportation of all Muslims is next? Or all non-Christians? That would pretty much get rid of most of the country.
