Much has happened, that many would find difficult to understand, my life is fairly unusual, and at the same time, very normal.

Lately for example, the Lord spoke to me, and the following happened: (An example of God's mercy for me) ...

One day I'm at Walmart, it's packed, wall to wall people. I never liked crowds.

I whispered to the Lord "Lord look at all these people, get me out of here".

The Lord spoke to me 'I'm going to make you comfortable with people"... I laughed, he has such a sense of humor, even when He is serious, you just know there is laughter in His heart...

So, I said "How Comfortable".

I figured Fine, God works slow, so in 10 or 20 years He will finish this promise, in me. 3-4 weeks later, I was in the same store, He said "Do you notice any difference". I said "Yes I would like to talk to all these people about Jesus".

He is amazing, so kind, and merciful. There is no other savior like Him...

So basically, I now live a life of "Resting from my own works" as seen in Hebrews CH 4...

The way this started was 12 years ago, I had no power to place myself into this rest. But one day as I sat at the kitchen table, the Lord shows up, and speaks with me.

Asking me, "why do you believe, what you believe, and who taught you?" I answered

Then He said... "I am the farmer, you are the land, I am the Shepherd, you are the sheep, I am the vine dresser, you are the vine.

It is NOT your job to change yourself, that is MY job." "When I want to change something in you, I will bring it to your attention, you just agree with me."

And I knew after He met with me in the kitchen, I was just to REST and wait for Him to bring these things to my attention, and then agree with Him, and He would change me. Also, if He asked me any questions, I was to stand naked before Him, no phony pretense, just BLUNT honesty, no sugar coating my answers to make it sound better. This was based upon His love for me, and my trust in Him. (IF you don't have those, you CANNOT be blunt, and honest as He requires....

At least that is How He has instructed me.). As the scriptures say: "But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him"

So, what do I say about all this, what is my conclusion?

Why is it always the spoken word, that sees to free me? I read the scriptures, and it NEVER does this for me. Have we put Jesus second in place to the bible?

Anyone can read the bible, quote verses, and preach sermons.

We have had all these infinitum, and there is no power in any of it.

Just habitual, religious expression, not much different than what we saw in the Pharisees and Sadducees.

What do I propose:

A simple life, of trust, faith, and fellowship with Jesus. Being taught by none other than Him (I have gotten rid of all my Christian books), I only read the scriptures and trust in Him, this is not done on a whim, but by STRONG inner conviction.

Being led on the inside by His Spirit, and learning of Him. If He has not taught you, you are not His.

You want to really spread the gospel, and share the good news?

Then tell people how Jesus impacted you, and changed you TODAY.

How He fellowships with you daily, and how you Love and TRUST in HIS work.

I can give you many personal examples of Him working in my life, making changes in me, and what do I do?

I REST in HIM....Living the life, that the book of Hebrews talks about. "Endeavor therefore to enter into this rest, and stop your own workings" (My paraphrase).

OK, just ponder as I share with you. These things are for me, but may also pertain to you. Ask Him if that is so.

Yes. I've been explaining. God allows you to witness the miracles of His plan.
The person praying has the problem. Not others.

My dear brother i'm very happy that you found Jesus in your life, that is great but if you place the word second you will do Him in incredible injustice. For Jesus is The Word.

So instead of reading the word with your mind, read it with your heart and in the spirit of love for God and people. For then those words will become alive and you will meet Christ like never before for He is The Word of God.

Best understood this well brother for otherwise satan will pull the wool over your eyes in no time and lead you astray.

i try and place my whole life in the word, every day again, for i know only then am i eternally in His loving truth, other 'truths' have harmed me so. i need The Truth to keep me safe.

i will no heed any Jesus' who don't speak the truths of God's word to me. i have learned the hard way that satan comes like an angel of light. Testing us. Puffing us up with pride, arrogance and spiritual blindness, and then dumping is the swamp of our lives in sin. The creep sure did that to me.

i learned to understand that in the son of lawless we fall big time when we begin to read the word to our hearts in the spirit of love for God and people. Yet that needs to happen for the stream of sin in our lives to stop and for clean water to come out of our inner spring of life.

So please brother repent of placing the word of God second, sure i'm not talking about the book, but the Truths written there in, for they are our eternal life, eternal life to all those selves in us who hear it and take it to heart until our by sin divided heart is one in His glory.

The living Word within is Jesus Christ our Lord. It is Him we have to get to know. While sin living in us fights to keep Him away, so that we peter out and die. Life in His truth will never die. That is The promise we have from Him.

That Jesus and the Word become One in your life brother, for that is what you are after. The Living word, He brings Heaven down from Above to dwell in and with us.

1 Peter 1:22-25
For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For,

“All people are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of the Lord endures forever.

And this is the word that was preached to you.

Hi Rodm1974

Thank you so much for sharing this. There's such a lot what you say that resonates with me. My life has been filled with this kind of personal teaching. It does remind me of one great example that happened just yesterday, regarding full submission to the Spirit of God. Please do feel free to share more if you like. If not in this forum then certainly by PM. I do think we have a lot in common where it pertains to the things of God.

I think I see what you are getting at.

When we are still young and not aware of the role of the Holy Spirit, we believe in Jesus Christ for salvation, and He allows us to get to the Father. And when we start understanding this, we get a clear picture of the truth, biblically speaking. But there is still something missing. That is the knowledge of the Spirit, the practice of yielding to Him fully. And when one starts walking in the Spirit, that flat, 2d picture of the bible gets transformed to a full color 3D landscape that you are immersed in. Truly, the Holy Spirit is the key to life, for without Him, we are not able to declare Jesus Christ to be the Lord. The Holy Spirit is the key to bringing life to the word. Like how the Holy Spirit raised Jesus from the dead. He also raises us from looking at the word into living the word.

Personal testimony is very important, and it may be that saying "this is how Jesus has changed my life" is the thing that has the most effect on people.
And it is true that not everyone understands the Bible or quotes it correctly; there are different interpretations of the same passage and even many translations.

But the fact is that God will not say anything which contradicts the Bible.
When you say "God showed up in my kitchen and said, 'I am the Shepherd, you are the sheep; I am the vinedresser, you are the vine"; that's Scriptural. When he said "when I want to change something in you I will bring it to your attention", that's Scriptural because Jesus said that the Holy Spirit will convict us of sin and lead us into all truth.

But someone reading your thread could go away with the message "don't worry about reading the Bible, just listen for Jesus' voice. He will speak to you audibly and tell you everything you need to know."
And that is misleading and incorrect. Why? Because there are several different "voices" around - the voice of our our desires, the voice of 'reason', the voice of non believers who may want you to do a certain thing, and the voice of the devil. If you do not learn to distinguish between them, you'll get into trouble.

Saying that God NEVER speaks to you through the Scriptures, is sad. I would certainly dispute your statement "there's no power in any of it", referring to reading and quoting Scripture.
Jesus learned the Scriptures - and he only had the OT - quoted them and fulfilled them. In the wilderness he quoted Scripture at the devil, who then went away. Paul, John and the writer of Hebrews say that the word of God is the sword of the Spirit. Yes, Jesus is THE Word, but the Bible is God's words, teachings and prophesies that have been written down. Countless lives have been changed by people who heard sermons from Scripture, or who heard people tell them what Scripture says about them, their sin and what God thinks about it. Paul said "I am not ashamed of the Gospel; it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone."

History is full of people who have said, "God spoke to me and said ......". Then they have gone on to commit crimes, or lead people astray "because "God" told them to." If there wasn't a way of "testing the spirits"; nothing to measure "God's words: by, we'd all end up believing anything.

Yes, I would say that anyone who studies the Bible, argues about it, learns it, can debate it but who has never met with the risen Christ, has got their focus wrong and is possibly worshipping the written word.
But that does not mean for one minute that we can disregard Scripture and expect to hear God speaking audibly to us, all the time.

If you fail to see the power in the Scriptures, the issue is you. It is God's word, His repository of power in a fallen world. The one trustworthy beacon by which all other messages must be tested. God has chosen to save the world by the foolishness of preaching, the simple act of declaring truth and not defending it. And preaching is only truth if it is Biblical truth. I would seriously question this voice you are hearing if it is causing you to step away from the mirror by which we are to test the spirits. After all, the enemy masquerades as an angel of light.

I think he's speaking about how the word is supposed to affect our lives, the changes it should make in us with God the Spirit now indwelling, and the fruit that this relationship should produce as we're led by Him. The ultimate purpose of our faith is union with God. From there we we can increasingly tell others about the goodness of that relationship from a postion of experience, from a heart of love, in our own words. Revelation is all part of that process, of getting us there.
