Right, you've consciously chosen to reject the view that a 'God' exists. That's not a mindless decision by you.

No, I have consciously chosen to seek out information to change my philosophical views, but I haven't been very successful. I don't get to choose whether or not I find an argument to be intelligent.

What information got you there in the first place? and what information is keeping you there?

You act like someone who has fallen into a well and can't get out.

I am not speaking for Sarah but sometimes a person is not sure of the existence of something so chooses to provisionally not believe in it. There can be a difference between not believe and disbelieve.

The philosophical views you currently hold are views which you've consciously and thoughtfully embraced, aren't they? Are you suggesting that you embrace these views without reason or conscious decision?

If you think I embrace atheism, you don't understand me very well. My own mind is my enemy on this one.

That seems like an odd way of describing reality. Wouldn't it be more like standing on a mountain peak, enjoying the view, anticipating the next hike?

You guys have odd ways of portraying freedom?

Nope, didn't say you embrace atheism. I'm asking about the views you do embrace....or reject.

Don't you embrace, or reject, those views consciously and thoughtfully?

It is more a lack of information than anything else really.

I've been an atheist for as long essentially as I can recall even considering such theological topics, so I don't really know how it started. Maybe my earlier, oddly young personal disproving of characters such as Santa Claus killed my ability to have faith with any ease?

Sure feels that way sometimes AV. A well of darkness and despair.

Not entirely, and especially not in philosophical matters.

Actually, commenting more on how I feel about being atheist. Which is fairly accurate in terms of me personally. I don't view my theological perspective as liberating.

Thank God, Frances Kelsey took that approach to Thalidomide.

You don't embrace, or reject those views consciously and thoughtfully? You're making mindless decisions on what you believe and reject?

I'd say subconscious more than mindless. And I not only am not consciously choosing to be atheist, I am consciously trying NOT to be, and so far failing. It is one of the reasons I find the argument "oh, all atheists really believe deep down, they just want to sin" especially insulting.

Nope, I'm not saying "like". As an atheist, don't you embrace atheism? By "embrace", I mean to believe in the philosophical life view.

There is no universal atheistic philosophy any more than there is a universal theistic one. Should I assume you view the world in the same way as a Hindu?

I'm just having a hard time accepting that. One normally doesn't embrace a basic view of life without some consideration and thought. Especially when you, as well as many of us on the forum, have considered the meaning of our existence and the source of our existence.
