  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is an awesome show!!!!!!!!!!
We did it last year at my highschool, and it was phenomenal, and SO SWEET!!!!! Everyone who was in it had a complete blast. It takes a whole bunch of Jesus' parables, mostly from mark, and using a main core group of about 13 teens- Jesus and his disciples- they act out his parables. the music is amazing, and since it's set in sort of the 'hippie' era, there is a lot of cool costuming and really canny humor.
We dressed up as hippies to go see it, it was awesome!

It's a musical. I know that much. :D

My Pastor when she was younger was involved with this musical. Though I think she was stage crew for it, she told me that it was a really awesome musical.

I think you should go for it. It's a really great show from what I've heard. :)

I actually wish my church could put on this musical, the thing is we can't because we have no place to perform. :(

But I'd go for it and see what you think. :)

What do you guys know about the show Godspell? My local theater group is going to be holding auditions for it soon and I'd like to know the basic jist of it.
All the stuff that I heard about it so far has sounded so blasphemous! What do you think?

It's a great show.

It's basically the parables of the Bible, set to beautiful music.

It's a beautiful show that makes the Christ story available to modern audiences with unique twist. It's basically little acts in between songs like "Save the People," "Light of the World," and my favorite "By My Side." When I saw this musical performed at a local church, I really enjoyed how simplistic it is and how deep it went. Overall, very much worth your time!

I have just seen it yesterday.

It was sooooo goood! :D I Recommend this to everyone!! Basically it is the Gospel of Matthew in a Musical. Excellent songs, very witty script and a great score!

If you ever have the chance... use it!! :D

I can understand how some of what you've heard about Godspell might have made it sound blasphemous. I believe that its author/composer, Stephen Shwartz, sincerely tried to depict the baptism of Jesus and the parables in such a way that would appeal to the hip-Christian "Jesus freak" movement of the 70's. However, Shwartz was not a Christian at the time of its writing, and some of the essential Gospel message was lost or distorted. Still, the music is very spirited, much of the text is based on old time-honored hymns, and a good Christian director can turn it into an inspiring and God-glorifying production. It was recently done at Valley Christian Theatre in San Jose (I played piano for the auditions) and I'm sure that the director Matt DeMerritt and the cast did a terrific job of presenting the Gospel through this show. One of its strong points is that it makes the Gospel message accessible to a secular audience.

and the lyrics to "Prepare Ye the way of the Lord" are very difficult to memorise!! ;)

They sure are... "Ye prepare the of Lord the way!" still can't get it right.

I love the show. Like the other people have said it baisicaly covers some of the parables and people have a lot of fun. I'm in a production of it right now, we're trying to take it out of the "Hippie Era" but I don't think that that's going to work. Well, I'm in "Godspell Junior" because it costs less to be allowed to perform that than the full length show.

It's great, if you can't be in it you should do tech or at least go an see it.

I don't know too much about it...yet. My church is putting it on next weekend. I was going to try out for it, but I was kind of busy since I was in my School's musical performance and I wasn't sure if I could handle two different shows within two weeks of each other. I'd definately say to audition though. My friends that are in it are saying that it's been awesome.
