  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What are some of your most amazing God moments?

You know, times when something seemed it should've happened, but didn't and you were so thankful to God for that miracle or something you really wanted happened when it seemed really unlikely?

I'll share mine in this thread, too, but I didn't want to start it with any stories.

One time, I decided I was going to go to my (now ex) boyfriend's house to see him. At that time, I had a big Ford F-150 pickup truck.

It had been raining. I got on the freeway and all seemed fine. I went to pull over into the left lane and I suddenly feel my wheel slip and I go hydroplaining all over the freeway. I'm wasn't sure what to do and I was extremely scared. I turned and my bumper hit the guardrail on the left and I spun more than 360 degrees.

I came to a rest and not a single car was on the freeway that needed to pass me. It was completely void of cars. A man in front of me stopped and walked back to make sure I was okay. I was very shaken, but I managed to pull the truck over to the side of the freeway.

He talked to me and looked a bit at my truck. Nobody was hurt and nothing major had happened to my truck. He just stood there with me while I sat and got all composed again. I had put my head down while the truck was out of control and lightly stepped on the brakes. However, it seemed to only get me to spin and I couldn't control the truck at all.

Last semester I somehow ended up doing really well on a final when the entire time I was taking it I was thinking..argh I'm gonna fail miserably. I handed in the paper..thinking..yea i'm screwed. I then get my grades in and I got all As and Bs.... According to my previous grades and having "bs'd" a lot of answers on the final...it seemed pretty impossible.

When I was first married and looking for a teaching job. I went on an interview, they loved me, but felt like an hour commute was too much for me and didn't offer me the job. I was so bummed and I finally said that's it God, I can't control it it is up to you. Two weeks later I got a call from a closer Catholic school asking me to come for an interview because one of their teachers was moving. I went to the interview and was offered the job on the spot. The thing is I never sent them a resume or even contacted them in ayway, but somehow my name and number appeared on the principal's desk. It was a great job, but I left a few years later to become a stay at home mom - which a God moment over and over and over again :)

Probably 10 years ago during my baby sisters pre-teen years (which were VERY hard for her being overweight and at a new school) I went into her room just looking to hang out. She was crying and kept asking me to leave. I refused over and over and tried to find out what was wrong. I don't really remember much more what happened than this, but about 3 months later she confided in me that she was going to commit suicide at the moment I walked in and me being there with her stopped her. Talk about God guiding my life!

*Note, things have since gotten a lot better and there's been no reoccurance of anything of this nature. She's actually grown into a very beautiful and happy woman

Edited to add: This was a very hard thing to admit 'out loud'. wow, I must feel like you guys are my second family

I never really had too many profound "God moments" that I became aware of, but I guess tahts the essence of faith.

Actually a few days ago I was really late for school; My school is about 17 min. away and I had to make it there in 7min. I usually take an insterstate which drops me off right next to the school, has no lights, has a 75 mph speed limit, no traffic, ect. But as i was pulling out I felt God saying to me "Take the bus route" (Im not kidding). Now, the bus route takes you on this road where the speed limit is 40 mph, a shift from Harley Davidson gets out at that time and clogs the road, and you hit about 5 or 6 lights. But I went anyway, got all green lights and no traffic. I caught a glimpse of the interstate as one of the roads passes under it, and I saw there was an accident and lots of traffic and stuff backed up. Made it there in record time :)
Kinda silly subject matter, but hey! Whose going to argue with some help from above.

Very personal, but an attempt was made on my life. I knew in my heart I was going to die, I even asked God to forgive me for all my sins that I might go to heaven. I felt a presence envelop me in light and the person was forcefully thrown from me. A miracle to me!! Seems God wasn't ready for me yet :)

I must need "extra help" because I'm provided with many, many "God moments"--some so tiny that only I (and God) know about them and some so that I'm left with racing heart and saying "what happened?"

I think I like some of the tinier "God Moments", but this larger one sort of sticks in my memory: The temperature had dropped and there was black ice on the road. I tried to stop for a stop sign (it was on a hill) and instead skidded the whole way down the hill, across the intersection (no cars) and finally stopped (inexplicably) only an inch from a person's rural mailbox. Shaking, I got out of the car. The person who owns the mailbox saw it all and commented that she dosn't know how it was done but it was lucky I didn't hit that mailbox. She said that vandals were having "fun" knocking it down so often that she had her neighbor sink it in cement so that if I had hit it, the mailbox wouldn't have gone anywhere, but the car would have been totaled.

I think my guardian angel gets "combat pay" and has white hair.

I have had several "God moments" -- one was when I was traveling early in the morning by car, it was still dark, on a highway in Oklahoma, to get to a university to take some exam. Not many cars were on the road. At one point there was a vehicle ahead of me, pulling a flat-bed trailer of some sort.
For some reason, I changed lanes -- I don't remember any particular reason for doing so --
shortly after, the trailer that was being pulled by the vehicle ahead of me came off of the vehicle!!!
If I were still in that lane, it would have headed straight into my car!!!
I was so thankful to God that morning!!! He had His angels watching over me that early morning!!!!:amen:
