• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Do you know of testimonies, of God curing?
I've heard a number of times, like three or four times at least, testimonies of people getting healed, but, each time (when specifically told) it was about a curing of PDD-NOS.

When I hear such a thing, I'm so like, I wish for God to cure (though am having Asperger myself, not PDD-NOS). Yea I know that may be weird to some people on here. Perhaps what I need is God curing from fears/despairs, and insecurity/feeling worthless and loneliness... Still, these are all linked to AS, well, obviously much of it was is consequence of me not being able to fit in (well).

Do you know of stories of God curing? Does it seem to others that mostly child-autism or PDD-NOS is cured?

I don't know about that, but I would like to find healing myself. I think I would be satisfied if the panic, selfesteem and some of the other stresses were healed. At my age I believe I could live with few of the other odd quirks you know?

Am not so sure; autism for me is cause of fear/uncertainty, being unable to connect with others (causing loneliness), some effects that I really do experience as negative.
(The psychologist am speaking with, is urging to get started with medications that'd "deal" with the fear but am kinda hesitating -- still)

I have yet to believe the 'cure' some are seeing is God infused but rather them trying different some very unique and major switches. It has been interesting though to see aquaintances now claiming 'cures' after certain medical procedures used but for me and my son it is not happening. Then again,I am afraid of some of these cures.

While researching for my book I stumbled across an article about a study that found treatment with hormones including endorphins and oxytocin increased aspies' ability to accurately interpret the emotional state of others -- the "empathy factor". I shared this with my wife, joking that there is a natural way to increase those very homrones for people who fear needles.

The quip was totally lost on her.... She wanted to know if such tinkering could also alter the positive aspects of Asperger. It never occurred to me, but when you think about it, Asperger is not a disease. God can bring healing in the form of transforming us by the renewing of our minds. For the NT, that could mean better understanding their aspie partners and for aspies, it could mean gaining confidence dealing with those disabled by being neurotyps ;-)

My prayer for her is that she can continue to walk in her giftedness (spiritual gifts, that is) and be the person GOD -- not society -- wants her to be. If endorphins and oxytocin help people to be more comfortable in social situations, I'm all for it. After all, our everyday activities cause these to be created anyway. But we need to be careful not to stand in the place of the Almighty.

I agree with Telejoke. God made me--and sin has flawed and broken that creation, so there are parts of my behavior that make an AS diagnosis necessary, so I can see the broken pieces and surrender them to God for healing/transforming (and also address them in day to day behavior). But everyone struggles like that--it's just in a different way for NTs. But God has enabled me to use my gifts and talents for His good purposes, and others have told me that they value my "unique perspective" and find it refreshing, so I guess that all sums up to a decent reason for being made this way and continuing to follow Christ and seek the Holy Spirit's sanctification.
