  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

i think once self aware machines are a reality we're going to learn a lot more about degrees of what self awareness actually is. for the literalistic, we may even be able to create them from dust, but not likely to actually "breathe" life into them.

If "god" created man, and man creates A.I. does that make us gods?

No. You first must create an AI that will destroy itself to fix all the bugs of other AIs. Then you need to restore it from backup. It also must have your brain-pattern.

Is that your goal? to be come a god?

It seems like I've heard that story before.

Genesis 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

I eat. I know good from evil. Guess that makes me a god. :p

Yes.

God presides in the great assembly; He gives judgment among the "gods"..."I said, 'You are "gods "; you are all sons of the Most High.'" - Ps 82:1-6.

Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are gods '?...He called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came — and the Scripture cannot be broken." - John 10:34-35.

Really? Most religions hold God to be omniscient; I cannot think of one that does not.
Greek gods or the Norse pantheon, for one. They do all kinds of stuff behind one another's back and trick each other left and right. The myth described here would never work with omniscient gods. Then there's the Egyptian myth of the death of Osiris, in which he was well and truly duped by his brother. (Incidentally, that's also a non-immortal god right there)

Wrong. The Greek gods were omniscient. They were tested on their omniscience by Tantalus, who served up his son (Pelops) to the gods to see if they would notice- they knew, and threw him to Tartarus.

As for the Egyptian gods, I'm not as familar with that religion.

God whipped'em -- end of story.

Exodus 12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
