Does anyone use the devotional book "God Calling" edited by A.J. Russell (forgive me if I didn't get the name right). It's a favorite of mine, and was just wondering if it had ministered to anyone else. If not, I'd gladly explain it to you and tell you where you can get a copy for yourself! =)

I used it several years ago as part of a woman's devotion group, and I thought there were some pretty questionable things in it. Not all of its theology would be considered strictly othrodox. I can't remember the details of what disturbed me, but I remember several of the devotions had to be examined and discussed, and finally discounted, because it didn't match up with the teachings of the Bible.

If I can find a copy, I'll look it over and go into more detail.

The woman's devotion group ended up abandoning it and going on to a different book to finish the year.

Really? I go to a counselor, and he recommended it to me. I wasn't sure about it at first (like you said, I didn't know if I agreed with it), but I prayed about it, and I just really feel like that book is annointed, and I know personally, God has used it many times (almost daily!) to speak to me!

Yes, the unorthodox things were pretty subtle. We used it about 11 weeks before we decided that it wasn't exactly kosher.

I think the questionable things came in about the second third of the book, just when we had become comfortable with it. Some of the things at that point became quite New Age-ish, like implying that Jesus is not the only door to heaven, and that sort of thing.

I asked my neighbor, a pastor, and she said that she had used the book in her women's group, but they also abandoned it about halfway through, because she became uncomfortable with some of the content. She was leading a group of new believers at the time, and she didn't want to get them confused by pages that had unorthodoxy on them.

If you are getting something out of it, great! But be cautious as you go through it, because it does have some very questionable messages.
