• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I had been to the hospital twice because I wasn't taking any medication for depression and now I am. The medicine I take make me glutton but my mother don't believe me and think that I just eating a lot because I want to. I had been eating junkfood most of my life and so did my family. Can anybody please recommend any healthy food for me to eat? thanks.

I've gained a lot of weight as well since I've been on meds.

I try to eat a lot of fruit instead of junk food, fruit is good for you and doesn't put on the weight.

Still I rather be big then depressed.

Yes, lots of fruits and vegetable. If you can have them cut up and ready to go, this can be very helpful, like carrot and celery stick. That way if you just want to be munching and have your hands and teeth busy, you can do it without harm. You could also get some fat-free dressing to dip them in if you need them to have a little extra flavor.

Also, here's another tip:
A great tip I have to credit Dr. Oz with. Take two tablespoons of chia seeds and mix them in 12 oz. of water. Drink immediately, before it gels up. It is the gelling process in your stomach that will help fill you up and keep you full. He suggested doing it mid morning and mid afternoon. But really you can do it anytime. It's completely harmless and in fact good for you, as chia has omega three fats, lots of fiber and even some protein.

Also, it's good to have folks praying for you about this. I'm sure others reading this will do so, but get yourself on prayer lists as well, Here's a link to one: http://www.christianforums.com/f10/

blessings and prayers,

I hate to say it but it doesn't matter in my opinion. I can't even lose weight eating healthy and exercising 7 days a week for an hour each day!! Ant-depressants really suck!! But what can you do?

I'm not an expert on the med part of it, but I am a nutritional counselor and have recently had to watch my own weight because of an injury that kept me from working out. And what I saw in myself and see in others is that we can eat a healthy diet and still be consuming too many calories. I know most of us don't like counting cals, but sometimes it is necessary. I wonder if you've tried that route, measuring out the foods you eat and really counting the cals. Often we are consuming more cals than we think and a bit of tweaking will bump us off the weight plateau.

Again, I don't know about the meds. They may indeed be causing the weight, but I thought I'd mention this just in case. I was actually able to lose weight when I was on meds. But I know everyone is different.

Blessings and prayers,
a

The thing with most anti-depression pills it doesn't matter if you "diet" or exercise. You just won't loss weight and you will still feel hungry. I would talk to your doctor about your concerns. I'm continuing to pray for you. :prayer:
