I agree that alarmists have taken advantage of variations of global climate and turning it into a cash cow or a religion of sorts (everything is about going Green nowadays). There are certain factors about global climate and magnetic fields and pollution which are indeed cause for concern or action (if we are able to do anything about it).
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
Star Trek Enterprise and the Fantastic Four and Deep Impact and Armageddon and other such movies and television shows didn't come up with the concept of earth shattering destruction. Two thousand years ago the Bible spoke of universal destruction. Even Hollywood has not gone there yet. It's because they can concoct what they believe is some form of escape for humanity to survive since they disbelieve spiritual life and destiny.
Maybe they will jump to an alternate universe (which exists only in their minds). In physics and quantum physics the scifi theories about multiple universes are actually traits of the ten dimension (single) UNIverse we live in.
Castastrophism is a reality of both the past and the future (which is what the Apostle Peter was driving at). There are nay sayers both ways. Uniformitarianism is the clarion cry of the macro-evolutionist. But the fossils we unearth <--- by the sheer fact that they have to be unearthed say otherwise.
Yeah it's going to get bad, very bad towards the end. And there may or may not have been some bowl or trumpet judgments already (such as nuclear weaponry) which show that the events of Revelation are not all contained in the 70th week of Daniel but are in the vicinity (near the end of history).
The existence of Israel is the biggest indicator of what time it is in history. And the building of the 3rd temple will be the sign that the end is near even at the door.
Matthew 24:32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
Fig leaves are symbolic of ineffective human religion (Bible students know of the law of first mention: Adam and Eve used fig leaves to try to cover their sin).
Then there will be a false messiah who claims to be the genuine article (Revelation 13:11) and will affirm the Mosaic covenant (Daniel 9:27) showing miraculous signs and wonders (Matthew 24:24 , Revelation 13:3-4 and Revelation 13:11-14) who shall lead a global genocide against Christians (Revelation 13:6-7) for they are the one people on earth who are not fooled by the beast (Matthew 24:24) and who refuse to take his mark (Revelation 13:8) which the under purpose of is to track the one people on earth who will not receive the mark.
Revelation 13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. 16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
Yeah, it's going to be quite a mess in the end. And the Church will be hunted until it is so far underground that the rapture of those few souls who survive to the 3.5 year point (Daniel 12:12, Revelation 3:10) will hardly be noticed at all. This is when the beast will turn against Israel and revert to Babylonianism and the Jews will become the global refuseniks the Christians had been bringing about the great tribulation (the last half of the 70th week of Daniel) the time of Jacob's trouble (Jeremiah 30:7). Then the real plagues of asteroids and famines and petulances and nuclear exchanges will occur. And just as the final Armageddon stroke is about to be swung over the remnant the Lord Jesus will return to defend his honor (saving the Jews who survive to that point).
