  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and give my opinion very strongly.

*climbs up on soapbox*

:preach: There would be no such thing as hair-metal or glam-metal without Def Leppard. When Pyromania was released in '83, nobody was doing the "huge-sounding-drums-and-polished-background-vocals" thing. After Pyromania, everybody hopped on that bandwagon, and hair-metal was born. :preach:

Think about all the glam-metal bands that came after the Pyromania record was released: Dokken, Poison, Cinderella, Scorpions, Vixen, Ratt, Slaughter, Warrant, Faster Pussycat, Firehouse, Kix, Guns N Roses, Danger Danger, Trixter, Winger, Britney Fox; etc.

Def Leppard- helped by Mutt Lange's production, of course- became the benchmark...

Yeah. I like "Come on, Feel The Noise". Harmonic, a little. Funny... although I learned it was not Quiet Riot's song but their version of Twisted Sister's song, and that other song called "Wer'e Not Gonna Take It" is funny. Twisted Sister does look twisted.

well said. Yeah I think Def Leppard really capitalized on that sound, and paved the way for most bands. You have to remember that Def Leppard was, at first, a NWOBHM (new wave of british heavy metal) band.

Def Leppard has been one of my all time fave bands since Pyromania's release. I never really lumped them in the hair metal category although I don't know why. They sure had enough hair in the early 80's. ^_^

IMO Nirvana and the other grunge bands killed the hair band era.

I love metal - Cinderalla, Def Leppard, Queensryche are some of my favs.

I really hope you know better! ;)

Actually Guns N'Roses is not hair metal. Maybe there real early stuff, but they started to stear the way for 90's hard rock. And Nirvana is grunge/alternative, this is what killed hair metal!!!

Peace & love, MetalBlade, but, trust me on this one. GNR was hair metal.

Watch the videos for Welcome To The Jungle, Sweet Child Of Mine, Patience, or Paradise City, and you'll see what I mean. Wall-to-wall "mall-bangs", man... ^_^

Granted, the Use You Illusion records were sort-of a blend of late-80's-glam and early-90's-grunge, but GNR will always be associated with hairspray-rock... ;)
