I remember as a young christian reading the story of Gladys Aylward, a common working class London woman, who felt called to missionary work in China. Even though she had a poor education and struggled to meet the application criteria she persisted, eventually travelling at great risk to China. She served God for many years and became a much respected member of Chinese society. Her full story can be found on my blog.
