Giving up everything?

i think what is god really mean is we must put HIM at the first among all we have...

if HE is asking you to follow HIM, just leave what is in your hand at that moments and follow HIM.
don't have doubt when following him and don't think for the past or look backward when you are request to follow HIM...

like when Jesus was in the temple, he himself also deny HIS own parents as HIS father and monther..for HIM, we are all one family...

Giving everything up means to put God in charge of everything. When you became a Christian, you gave Him your life, and consequently everything in it. So it's not your computer or your wheelchair, it's God's computer and wheelchair. But even though He owns it all, there's a good amount that He probably wants you to keep, that wheelchair comes to mind. You are a trustee of His possessions now.

I definitely agree that you need to get aquainted with the Bible before doing anything rash. His will is found in Scripture, and He won't tell you to do anything that He condemns. You're really new in the faith, so if He does tell you anything, tell older, trustworthy believers with a solid foundation so they can help you confirm that it was Him or just your imagination.

Hi, my opinion on the 99 sheep/1 sheep is that you should NEVER stop trying to bring people to understand the Love of GOD. If you have 99 sheep and they are all saved and one runs away, you need to go and try to bring that one back to the Lord. Never stop witnessing for the Lord, tell everyone about his love and what wonderful things that are in store for those that find Him and live their life for Him.
My pastor gave us a mission this year, if you get a telemarketer that is calling, dont hang up, but tell them I have something to sell you, but its Free and tell them about the Lords love for them. If you not sure of the words, read John 3:16 to them. Dont miss an opportunity to stand for the Lord and spread the Good News of Jesus to each and every person.
I love the Lord and I am truly thankful for my salvation.
I truly want and desire Jesus to live within me, I want people to see his love shining when I speak to them.
You are doing a wonderful job by posting your questions, keep it up, we all have a lot to learn from each other and this is the best way to do it.

I talked to the guy last night about it and he said I need to be willing to give up everything like Abraham, whoever he was. Then I asked him about the sentence I found yesterday and he said that Jesus was just saying we may have to go that far to follow Jesus. Why does Jesus want us to be that extreme? I also read more of Luke today and I saw where Jesus said that a shephard went to find one sheep where 99 were good. I am thinking that is Jesus and us, am I right? If not, it could be, because it says sinner and repenting at the end and it just seems like that. I also went to the Christian bookstore last night and I thought I would get some books and music. What are good books and music for me to listen to? There are so many and I don't know. Oh, yeah, on Monday I go back to work because I have been off because of sickness. I hope it goes well and I'm not fired when I get back like I keep thinking I will be.

the important thing is to develop a close relationship with jesus. the holy spirit will let you know what he would like you to giveup or not. never let man tell you what god wants, go to the source and finds out

The big point of the verses that talk about that "giving up everything" is giving up control to God. (All of it) This does not mean that you have to give away all the objects that you have (Though God may do that with some people) but when you give All of YOU to God, He provides you with all your needs. This does not mean that you don't have to work either. But the point is to do what He leads you to do for the great plans that He has for you.
