Are my posts frivilous, or not worthy? I see these people from other denoms with 5-10x the amount of reputation as me. Or are we in SR just more stingy about giving it out when it is truly deserved only?

I admit to being stingy with giving reputation. Even though I am always glad to get it I just don't think about giving it. I will try to do better.

Okay, okay, I'm stingy. But, not in the way that most people would think. I give it out when I truly feel that it is deserved, however I usually post in SR. Thus, whenever I try to rep someone, it gives that irritating little message about spreading it to others first. I'm not stingy with reps in SR, it just won't let me rep often.

I get that too because I am always trying to rep the same people it seems.
Must pass rep out to more people.
I guess 20 different people before rerepping the same person again.
Some of the other forums I visit just don't have a lot of "worthy" posts.
And repping is an individual decision based on relativity of "worthiness".

I think "reputation" is remarkably unimportant. In some cases, we might overemphasize it too. If we have reputation, we have boast before men, but not before God. SR is probably more stingy than other forums, choosing to credit posts of substance and biblical insight, not based on emotional content. And for that reason, we have all the less claim to reputation, for whatsoever we know, we know because the Holy Spirit has graced us with it.

Anyway, for that reason, I have disabled my reputation bar. I don't want that to even be a factor or a contribution to the character of my posts. I am just a servant. Let a man judge what I say based on the content of Scripture, not the number of orange bars I have in my profile.

Soli Deo Gloria

I give reps often when I see a post that kinda "hit the nail" or gave me a lightbulb that I didn't think before or something was amusing or whatever that motivated me to give people reps. I usually give between 3 to 8 people reps per day.. depending on "my mood" AND "their posts"

I just recently turned mine back on.
I personally do not care about the points one way or the other.

It is the comments that matter to me.
However some people feel more comfortable leaving a message that way.

They may not PM a person or post in a thread.
For me too, sometimes I prefer to leave a rep comment rather than to post.

I turned mine off a long time ago. It is just not something that I need or for which I am fishing.

Everyone on SR deserves mountains of reps (INCLUDING YOU SHADRACH) for thoughtful, important and relevant discussions. Just look at the meat here compared to the milktoast offered in some other areas (not naming names!!!).

God bless you all.
Blessed Hogmanay and Happy New Year!

I often get that irritating message about spreading reps around, so I don't give out as many reps as I'd like.

Then I go hunting to give some reps out and find very little that is worthy. Altho, I do like to encourage seekers in "Questions by non-Christians" by giving them reps for asking thoughtful questions.

Jon, that was an absolutely fabulous answer. You have inspired me to remove mine as well. I guess just sometimes with the exceptional knolwdge some people around here have, I sometimes wonder if the things I post are "worthy" of being around here, as sometimes I feel like a total idiot.

I am the least in the kingdom friend.....you must get in line ahead of me! Your posts are no less worthy than any other here and are more worthy than many.

God bless you Shad.

I'm stingy. I only rep when a post really affects me profoundly. Unfortunately, that's usually here in SR so when I try to rep I get that dreaded "you must first spread some reputation around before giving it to_________again" grrrrrrrrrrrrr

I enjoy getting reps, only because it's good to know that at least SOME of the stuff I write is well received....makes me feel like I'm doing ok at least....

I don't pay attention to the amount or anything, I just like reading the statements people make when they rep...

I don't give reps too often, because I am forgetful and absent-minded. And when I do, I usually cannot because the folks I rep, I tend to want to rep very often. You guys are always pumping out good stuff.

I like to get reps because I find it interesting to see which posts of mine they enjoy, and why. It's usually not the ones I'd expect anyone to like.

I know that feeling well. I've often cancelled posting halfway through composition when I realize that I just don't think there's anything I can add that would be profitable when compared to other contributions to a thread.
