  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Give us a break!!

Translation: "I want to condemn some people without any reasoning behind it, so I will just list a bunch of Christian artists, call them more talented than Secular ones without really defending the claim, and go on my merry way. I'll also throw another unsubstantiated jab at Secular artists and call them all materialistic. This is fun!!"

Sound about right?

umm, what's the point to this thread? If I went in to the christian music section and wrote an identical message directed a christian music lovers only turned it around would you appreciate that? no, I don't think so. It is insulting, and arrogant and furthur does not show the love of Christ, and if that's what listening to christian music turns you into I then I never want to become a fan of christian music.

I personally have problems with the bands that you have mentioned. And I'll tell you this. when they can stop singing the world's song and sing a new song as scripture indicates we should, when they take the hypocrisy out of the christian music genre, and when the bands and singers themselves can learn to follow Romans 12:3 and stop being lovers of themselves then maybe I'll give it a chance.

Well, there's only four posts on this thread and at least two of those scare the bejeezers out of me.

Nadroj ~ Thought your translation of the original post was very well done. Would you be interested in trying your hand at a translation of the lady_tigress' post?

Let's sum up:

Musical taste, being very subjective at best, has given some the insight to determine that...

Christian artists are more talented than their more famous secular brethren.
OR
Christian music just plain sucks and very few secular bands suck to the extent that Christian music sucks.

You MUST choose one! That, so far as I can tell, is the point of this thread.

As a bonus for your consideration on this thread:
Secular artists are only in it for the money.
Christian artists are hypocritical heretics (which would make for an interesting band name).

Enlightening.

Thanks. I'll let you translate the lady's post if you want to. Translation is hard work; I only do it once a day ;)

Like nadroj, let me say first of all that your user name is quite quaint and funny.

If you read all the threads, you'd find that there isn't really all that much "defense" of secular music around here. At times we do actually have friendly banter on untalented secular artists, so please don't jump in and accuse us of a bias towards secular music. I think there are some great Christian artists out there personally, who do follow Romans 12:3 and write edifying music that encourages believers.

You mentioned T-Bone, KJ-52 and Mars ill. They are awful. Period. You're not listing good christian artists, you're listing christian artists and calling them good. I don't know how many others were bad, but I've listened to those three and they're a joke.

Listen to Qwel, he's a crazy rapper and I'm pretty sure he's christian, and has some christian-ish tracks.

You're right about T-Bone and KJ-52 being bad, but how can you say that about Mars Ill. He is one of the best christian mc's. I know that don't say much, but he is.

There's no way this person can possibly be taken seriously with a screen name like that.

Ignore this thread.
Axver has a point here... I thought that when I first saw the thread.

This topic has been beaten to death over and over and over again. I say we let the thread die lol

I was just listing some of the first ones who came to mind. T-bone and KJ-52 used to really be Korny, but no where near as bad as TobyMac or any of the other artist who give Christian Music a bad name. I apoligize for apearing to be insulting. T-bone and KJ-52 right now, there new stuff, is good. Particularly T-bone. Any of you see the movie "The Fighting Temptations"? He was in that movie. And I wasn't refering to Pillars old stuff. All I want is for you guys to give these bands a chance.

Here are a few others that come to mind.

Beloved, The Beutiful Mistake, As I lay dying, Anastasis, Lifehouse, Detour 180, Copeland... There are more, but don't take my word for it, go to http://www.TVUlive.com/ They have all of them there.

Look, I shouldn't have acted cocky, but I was really ticked off. Christians bash Christian artist more than Non-Christians do. I am in a band that is new to the industry, and let me tell you, from hanging around a lot of the Christian bands out there, a lot of them are not really strong Christians, but God still uses them. I know that many Christian bands have given Christian Music a bad name as well. But I gave Christian music another chance a few years back, and it's all I listen to now. I know that you think a lot of them are "Fakes" or "Moraly compromising" and I can tell you from hanging around a lot of them that it is true for some. But its' not the ones you'd expect. It's the one's who nobody gives respect that are really the closest to God. A lot of you also don't realize how hard it is to mantain a good image, especially when you are a Christian Band on a Secular label. Here is an example from the band "Isaiah Six". They are a worship team!! And they are amazing Christians. Nobody has any idea how hard it is for them to resist temptation, I am good friends with the Keyboardist. On a regular basis, after big Worship Concerts, 15 to 19 year old girls ask him to sign there private parts. Now, that is a worship team, imagine how much harder it is for a Christian Rock band. You guys can't criticize Christian artist for singing Secular songs when you listen to Secular songs. How is one any worse than the other? I know many bands are Morally Compromised, but you don't realize how much you hurt the Christian Music Ministry when you pay 18 dollars for a Secular CD. And then you say that the Christian Music isn't worth it. It did used to be bad musically, and it's hard to find the really good bands, but things like TVU, RadioU... make it a lot easier.

Um...Toby Mac's one of the most influential Christian artists ever as far as I'm concerned. How can you be part of one of the groundbreaking Christian bands ever in the form of DC Talk and give the genre a bad name? I work in the industry, and I've never heard a music purchaser who doesn't rate either DC Talk or Toby Mac. Now please stop before this gets out of hand like every other similarly themed thread that's passed.
